Mission letter by President Juncker (1 November 2014) to Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis, in charge of Health and Food Safety Developing expertise on performance assessments of health systems, drawing lessons from recent experience, and from EU- funded research projects to build up country-specific and cross- country knowledge which can inform policies at national and European level.

The European Core Health Indicators (ECHI)
In 2012, a Joint Action between the Commission and the Member States resulted in a shortlist of 88 health indicators, classified by policy area (revision under the BRIDGE-HEALTH project). Most of the indicators are implemented with Eurostat data: Causes of death statistics, EHIS, Health care non-expenditure and expenditure statistics, Minimum European Health Module (MEHM) of the EU-SILC, population statistics… For some indicators, other international sources are used.
