Range of Variables Currently Received
Matthias Lankhorst OceanSITES Meeting, Southampton,
2
What we have Temperature, conductivity, pressure, salinity
Current speed and direction (or u and v) Air pressure, temperature, wind speed and direction, humidity, sw and lw radiation, air-sea heat flux Chlorophyll, oxygen, nitrate concentrations A lot more physical than biogeochemical data submitted (inhomogeneity between disciplines) Different ways to submit the same data (speed & dir versus u & v, mass versus mole concentration) - inhomogeneity between operators
3
What is our goal? Make more measurements of underrepresented disciplines? Make sure that the existing ones are submitting their data? Restrictions how to submit particular variables (Matthias thinks this is not a good iddea, nor a real problem)?

Data Aspects of Deep Observing Networks
Matthias Lankhorst OceanSITES Meeting, Southampton,
5
Specific data aspects Data variables themselves are routine (CTD)
Metadata to specify accuracy and QC info is available Metadata to describe calibration specifics is somewhat available, but not routinely used May want to identify data as belonging to the deep observing network, to the OceanSITES-provided instrument pool, ...
