3 Statement of Financial Position
Assets Year ending 3/31/2018 Year ending 3/31/2017 Current Assets 349,308 416,786 Investments 199,248 121,897 Property and Equipment 14,839 13,157 Total 563,395 551,840 The important thing to notice on this slide is that our overall assets increased from last year. We have increased investments and are keeping less cash on hand.

4 Statement of Financial Position
Liabilities and Net Assets Year ending 3/31/2018 Year ending 3/31/2017 Current Liabilities 25,454 23,143 Net assets-Unrestricted 373,430 392,962 -Temporarily restricted 118,076 89,316 -Permanently restricted 46,435 46,419 Total Net assets 537,941 528,697 Total liabilities and net assets 563,395 551,840 Current Liabilities are payroll and a few bills that carried over at the close of the fiscal year. Permanently restricted funds are the Cheryl and Emerson Learn bus scholarship fund. The agreement when this money was donated was that it would not be touched until the fund reached $100,000. Currently the friends are supporting the bus scholarship program out of general funds. However, Deb is negotiating a new agreement so that some of this capital can be used to support the bus scholarship program. Temporarily restricted funds are monies where the donor has requested that they be used for a specific purpose. Some of those purposed are: Pollinator program, Langemann gate, youth hunt, VC Children’s corner. Sometimes restricted funds can end up being a lot of trouble. Unless the agreement is carefully written left over money can get stranded. For example, years ago money was given for a Bosque book. That project is over but the donors cannot be found to release the money for another use. Deb is working on cleaning up these stranded funds.

5 Where our money comes from (Net Income)
Nature Store Last year was particularly bad for FOC. Yet it is only in the past 4 years that festival made substantial money. This increase was due to adding the Expo tent and expanding the photo programs. It’s purpose is not to be a money raiser. Also, long time members may remember when the Nature Store was a cash cow. The Friends now have to pay for all of the store staff and so now the Nature Store turns a small but reliable profit. Potential for growth lies with Memberships, Donations and grants. Increasing administrative staff as we did last year is necessary for growth in those areas.

6 How we spend our money According to the National Council of Nonprofits the usual range of overhead costs are 25-35% (we are at 23.4%.) Is a lower overhead percentage better? No! It is important not to starve our organization of the resources it need to improve and expand. Reasonable overhead allows us to hire the best staff possible, it allows us to implement strong infrastructure so that donors know that their money is being used effectively, it gives us the ability to pursue grants and donations. Our plan is to expand the pie.
