2 Jargon in Education Accountability is a term that is used by educators to explain the performance of students and is defined as “the notion that people or an organization (e.g., a school, school district, or state department of education) should be held responsible for improving student achievement.” ( Teachers are not only held “accountable” for student achievement, but must demonstrate this accountability by document growth and progress in the annual development of their students.
