1. Complex and Compound-Complex Sentences
What is a Complex Sentence?
A complex sentence has ONE INDEPENDENT CLAUSE AND ONE OR MORE DEPENDENT CLAUSES.
How is a Complex Sentence formed? IC = SC

if you need me (SC – subordinate clause) =
I will help if you need me.
(Complex sentence with the SC clause placed at the end of the sentence.)

2. Dependent/Subordinate Clauses
Will begin with a subordinate conjunction: as, although, after, while, when, unless, because, before, if, since (AAAWWUBBIS words) and
Will contain both a subject AND a verb, but
Do NOT make complete sentences by themselves.

3. Complex Sentence Examples
Because I was hungry, I ate seventeen pancakes.
Everyone laughed when he got a cream pie smashed in his face.
The movie, although very long, was still very enjoyable.
