1 Complex and Compound-Complex Sentences
What is a Complex Sentence? A complex sentence has ONE INDEPENDENT CLAUSE AND ONE OR MORE DEPENDENT CLAUSES. How is a Complex Sentence formed? IC = SC I will help (IC – independent clause) + if you need me (SC – subordinate clause) = I will help if you need me. (Complex sentence with the SC clause placed at the end of the sentence.)

2 Dependent/Subordinate Clauses
Will begin with a subordinate conjunction: as, although, after, while, when, unless, because, before, if, since (AAAWWUBBIS words) and Will contain both a subject AND a verb, but Do NOT make complete sentences by themselves.

3 Complex Sentence Examples
Because I was hungry, I ate seventeen pancakes. Everyone laughed when he got a cream pie smashed in his face. The movie, although very long, was still very enjoyable.

What is a Compound-Complex Sentence? A compound-complex sentence has TWO OR MORE INDEPENDENT CLAUSES AND ONE OR MORE DEPENDENT CLAUSES. How is a Compound-Complex Sentence formed? SC, IC, cc IC OR SC, IC; IC When I wrap the presents, I take great care to fold the paper, and I try to tape it very well.
