FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2017 1. Think about some of the problems facing the Roman empire. Do you believe that America is facing some of the same problems? Explain.

Monday, September 18, 2017 According to our Constitution, Amendment 2 states that a “…well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” and Amendment 3 states that “no soldier shall in time of peace be quartered in any house without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner prescribed by law.” Do you believe if all Roman citizens had the training and ability to use weapons would that have lessened the threat of invaders? Do you believe that it lessens our threat from invaders today? Do you believe that soldiers be able to be stationed in a person’s home instead of a fort would have lessened the threat of invaders in Rome? Today?

Tuesday, September 19, 2017 According to our Constitution, Amendment I states that “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble….” When should a person in a free country be limited in his or her speech toward a governmental official? Why would women even today appreciate Theodora’s forwardness with her husband and his rule? When is it okay for a people to assemble and protest?

Wednesday, September 20, 2017 According to our Constitution, Amendment 1 states that “Congress cannot make any law prohibiting the free exercise of religion…” Why was Constantine’s Edict of Milan so important to the Romans? Why is religious freedom important today?

Thursday, September 21, 2017 According to our Constitution, Amendment 6 states that, “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation….” Think about the early Christians and Jews. Did they have these rights in Rome? Why are these rights important today?

Friday, September 22, 2017 According to our Constitution, Amendment 1 states that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion…” Think about Theodosius and his outlawing all religions except Christianity. Did that law hurt anyone? How? Why would our Founding Fathers of the U.S. think it was important to separate religion and government?
