1 The AEOLIX project & Living Lab 12
Ted Zotos, IRU Projects 14 December 2018, Bucharest AEOLIX LL12 event

2 Contents AEOLIX project An overview Living Labs Benefits Living Lab 12
Foreseen impacts Pilot insights Current status Steps to follow In this presentation, we will go through AEOLIX project and living lab 12. At the beginning, an overview of the project, the visibility network, the services and the benefits are going to be presented. Specifically for the living lab 12, the foreseen impacts and the pilot insights are going to be elaborated. This will be a short overview of the Project and the pilot Living Lab. In the next presentation, the eCMR insights are going to be further elaborated.

3 What is the project about:
Development of a web-based software tool to enhance the visibility and connectivity across the supply chain Tool will integrate existing services and facilitate data exchange among supply chain stakeholders in order to optimize their operations The tool will be tested and validated in 12 real-world living-labs with pre-defined business cases IRU Projects objective in AEOLIX: Analyze current status quo of freight transport and logistics in Europe Analyze and test the potential of eCMR solution AEOLIX project is about a development of a web-based software tool to enhance the visibility and connectivity across the supply chain. This tool will integrate existing services and facilitate data exchange among supply chain stakeholders in order to optimize their operations. It will be tested and validated in 12 real-world living-labs with pre-defined business cases. Our objective in AEOLIX is to analyze the current status quo of freight transport and logistics in Europe and additionally to analyze and test the potential of eCMR solution

4 AEOLIX partnership AEOLIX is a very big project including 40 partners. Between them, IT companies, universities and other research oriented entities, companies like Unilever and Mondelez, national, European and international associations and a ministry of Transport.

5 Living Labs in AEOLIX 12 living labs have been launched in order to develop and test all the different data relationships and services. The geographical coverage of the project is important because the biggest corridors and the majority of European territory has been included. Living Lab 5 is also operating in Romania and neighboring countries regarding the Danube river with Teamnet, IHORKS Shipping and Trading and via donau

6 AEOLIX benefits AEOLIX comes with many benefits: Enhanced supply chain visibility through the data sharing, more efficiency and better resilience through visibility and faster decision making for the whole supply chain, fewer costs and less administration, new business opportunities, automation of data flow, optimisation of transport services, better transport and event management, increased load factors, fewer CO2 emissions and interoperability in line with EU standards. Living lab 12 and eCMR shares most of the previously referred benefits like more visibility, efficiency, fewer costs and administrative costs, better transport and event management, fewer paper.

7 Upcoming eCMR pilots in AEOLIX
Five (5) IRU members joined the project as official partners as of June 2018 to perform project-based activities: Implement and monitor eCMR pilots Train pilot participants in the use of eCMR Conduct market study of eCMR potential Organize local eCMR related dissemination events Study data sharing, legal and insurance issues related to eCMR deployment The living lab 12 was added in the project in the summer and kicked-off in September in order to test the digital CMR by performing activities as: Implementation and monitoring of eCMR pilots. Training of the pilot participants in the use of eCMR Conduct market studies of eCMR potential Organisation of local eCMR related dissemination events And study the data sharing legal and insurance issues related to the deployment of eCMR 5 IRU members joined the project as official partners: BGL (Germany), UNTRR (Romania), OFAE (Greece), CCIS (Serbia) and Cesmad Bohemia (Czech Republic) in order to implement national and international eCMR pilots.

8 Living Lab 12 at a glance Establishment of a new Living Lab – 12 in order to: Showcase the potential of digitalization in transport Showcase its contribution in increasing the visibility across the supply chain of national and cross-border operations across Europe through the use of digital freight transport documents Pilot deployment of e-CMR solution in real-world cases (400 operations) The new Living Lab 12 was established in order to: Showcase the potential of digitalisation in transport and Its contribution in increasing the visibility across the supply chain of national and cross-border operations across Europe through the use of digital freight transport documents And finally, in order to pilot the deployment of eCMR solution in real world cases and specifically for 400 operations

9 Foreseen impacts Reduction of administration work due to
reduced data entry, no paper handling, no fax/letter/scan exchanges, no archiving, faster invoicing, real-time access to information and proof of pick-up and delivery. Expected reduction: 3 to 4 times less effort to be evaluated in temporal and monetary KPIs. The foreseen impacts of going to eCMR instead of the printed document include numerous administration tasks as reduced data entry, no paper handling, no fax/letter/scan exchanges, no archiving, faster invoicing, real-time access to information and proof of pick-up and delivery. We expect 3 to 4 times less effort to be evaluated time and money.

10 Foreseen impacts Reduced inspection time due to
faster access to information, faster back-end research and cross-check on behalf of road authorities. Expected reduction: up to 7% less time on the overall transport (from pick-up to delivery and finally to invoicing) - be evaluated in digital vs. paper-based operations during LL operations Additionally, the time spent in inspections will be less because of: faster access to information, faster back-end research and cross-check on behalf of road authorities. We expect up to 7% less time on the overall transport (pick-up to delivery and invoicing) by going digitally to eCMR (more studies will be presented in the next presentations)

11 Foreseen impacts less sheets of paper issued and carried.
3. Environmental friendlier operations due to less sheets of paper issued and carried. Expected reduction: Only regarding vehicles transport, 135 tones of wood are used for the paper documents carried. And last but not least, the operations will be environmentally friendlier due to less paper issued and carried – 135 tonnes of wood are used for the documents carried

12 Pilot insights All technology is already available so there is no need for further technical developments For all pilots we will use paper print-out of the eCMR as well (to avoid issues with road authorities) The pilot will not cost any money for Ministries or other authorities! Accession to eCMR is not mandatory before pilots can start Pilots are not mandatory before eCMR accession Opportunity to support and speed up the ratification of eCMR in your country For the implementation of the pilot, all the necessary technology is already available – no need for further technical developments Paper CMR document will be used for the pilot as well in order to be aligned with the current legislation and avoid issues with road authorities. The pilot will not cost any money for ministries or authorities Accession to the eCMR is not mandatory for the pilots – pilots are not mandatory before eCMR However this is an opportunity to support and speed up the ratification of eCMR in Germany

13 Current status of the pilot
National events (4/5) Participants’ engagement (4/5) Training of the national associations (2/5) Training of the participants (1/5) Pilot kick-off (aprox. Beginning of February 2019)

14 Steps to follow in order to be part of the pilot
1. Get training on the Transport Portal and the eCMR application from UNTRR 2. Ask questions – propose improvements 3. Start the pilot on February 2019 4. Ask questions – propose improvements 5. Keep track of the data from the pilot and give feedback to UNTRR 6. When the pilot ends, the results will feed the studies that UNTRR will conduct and will be delivered to the EC 7. Get all the experience and improve your efficiency!
