1 GSBME Procedure for Printing out labels using Chemalert

2 Introduction This procedure is intended to be used by GSBME students.
This procedure outlines the process of printing labels for chemicals using Chemalert. This PowerPoint presentation will show steps required to print the labels for chemical / main constituent of a chemical with higher risk.

3 Procedure: Step 1 Visit UNSW Health and Safety website

4 Step 2 Click on Anonymous user

5 Step 3 Click on search button

6 Step 4 In the search box enter the name of the chemical / main constituent of a chemical with higher risk.

7 Step 5 Search will show the list of different suppliers that supply the chemical

8 Step 6 Search results from the previous step can be limited by selecting one of 3 options as shown in the video below:

9 Step 7 Select the most relevant chemical concentration that has the health and safety information you need. After selection of the chemical more information such as identification, classification, Emergency, other information, reports, etc. will be displayed.

10 Step 8 Label Size Reports Labels
If this is the chemical for which you want to create the label , then click on reports in the bar on the left-hand side and click on the labels from the bottom of this screen. Select the size of the labels. GSBmE stocks 2 sizes ( 2X1 & 2X8). Label Size Reports Labels

11 Step 9 On the “Product Label” screen update the name of the chemical to match its contents , For E.g. – “40% DMSO in ethanol” and fill other details. 1) Update the name of chemical here 2) Add custom information in this field 3) Enter the expiry date here 4) Change format to Word 5) Click on “Label Placement”

12 Step 10 In the “Label Placement” pop-up box select the number of rows and columns you need to print and click “ok”. You will be returned to previous screen. Ensure that the label sheet is facing up in the printer. Select “View/Print” button.

13 Step 11 A label similar to the one below will be generated and this can be printed to the “FxdocuPrint cp105b ” printer(Chemical lab, 405). Please Note: Currently Chemalert temporarily does not show the custom text in 2x8 labels. This issue has been raised with the vendor and they are working to resolve this issue. Until then please type the custom text in the word document yourself.
