7 What needs to be changed?
Power Campus (SIS) – feeds every other system below Self-Service (SIS) Canvas (LMS) Draw (artifact repository) Blackboard (building access & meal plans) Student Network Account Student Address Student ID card Library Information System What needs to be changed?

8 What can’t change? Transcripts Degree Certifications (Clearinghouse)
Financial Records Enrollment and payroll records Enrollment data Financial aid documents What can’t change?

9 Avoiding confusion is the 1st priority
Rosters, grades, and attendance go into Power Campus Self-Service (SIS) Classes are run in Canvas (LMS) Avoiding confusion is the 1st priority

10 There is no setting in Power Campus Self-Service to display the preferred name field in place of the first name. Since faculty use Self-Service and Canvas we don’t want to change one without changing the other. The BIG problem

11 What can we do that allows the student to live with a different name within our current limitations?
Student Network Account Student Address Student ID Card Phase 1, spring 2015

12 Students preferred name must be approved by the Office of the Registrar
I.T. can only make the change in-between semesters Phase 1 limitations

13 Student turns in the Preferred Name Update form to the Registrar
Registrar approves and makes the change in Power Campus At the end of the semester all update forms are sent to I.T. for processing Change process

14 In spring 2015 we learned how to install a script on-top of Self-Service that calls the preferred name field and replaces the first name on 90% of the pages with the preferred name. Including class rosters, attendance, and grading. The only pages that it doesn’t work on are pages that faculty don’t see. Phase 2, fall 2015

15 Phase 2, fall 2015 continued… Power Campus (SIS) feeds changed to:
Self-Service (SIS) Canvas (LMS) Draw (artifact repository) Blackboard (building access) Student Network Account Student Address Student ID card Library Information System Phase 2, fall 2015 continued…

16 The Common App already collects a preferred name, we are using this for new account creation.
Added an workflow for change process to keep anyone from forgetting their part. The changes can be submitted to I.T. anytime during the semester and the ticket will be dated out to the end of the term. Lessons from Phase 2

17 It went perfectly smooth for instructors, there was never a question or complaint.
Some students already had preferred names from their Common App submission that all of the sudden started to show up. How it went

18 Phase 3, Power Campus enhancement
Power Campus 8.8 has included fields for: Display Name Gender Identity Preferred Pronoun Also enabling many different display options in Self-Service Phase 3, Power Campus enhancement

19 We are adding Gender Identity and Preferred Pronoun questions to the Common App to be imported into Power Campus along with the application. Phase 3, our plan

20 Phase 3, Gender Identity How do you describe yourself? Man Woman
Transgender Gender-fluid Agender Non-binary Self-identify as other gender not listed Phase 3, Gender Identity

21 Phase 3, Preferred Pronoun
How do you prefer that others refer to you? He/Him She/Her They/Them Other pronoun not listed Phase 3, Preferred Pronoun

22 Self-Service will let student select Preferred Name, Gender Identity, and Preferred Pronoun.
We plan to hide Preferred Name and only let students select Gender Identity and Preferred Pronoun. The select lists from the Common App will be duplicated in Self- Service for consistency. Phase 3, Self-Service

23 Questions??
