SECTION 4-2 Using Intercepts
2
The x-intercept is where the line crosses the x-axis.
The y- intercept is where the line crosses the y-axis.
3
X-intercept: 2 Y-intercept:-4
4
Formula: Ax+By=C
5
Example: What is the y-intercept of 2x+y=4 2(0)+y=4 y=4
The y-intercept is the y-coordinate of the point where the y-axis . Therefore y is equal to 4 because x=0.
6
Practice: Find the x and y intercepts
1. 4y-8=2x 2. 4x+y=8 3.
7
4. y-x=-1 5. 2x+3y=18 6. x-3y=-1
8
Answers: 1. x-int. -4 Y-int. 2 2. x-int. 2 Y-int. 8
