It’s founder is Masaaki Imai Kaizen was originally implemented as a business philosophy shortly after WWII First company to Kaizen was Toyota in Japan Masaaki Imai introduced Kaizen to the U.S. in 1986 with his book, “Kaizen: The Key to Japan’s Competitive Success”

Using Kaizen in your journey to become lean will result in many improvements. Some of the expected benefits will be: Increased productivity Improved quality Better safety Lower costs Improved customer satisfaction

What are the Benefits of Kaizen? (continued) Kaizen, however, is not limited to increasing profitability. Other benefits improve the overall culture of the company and will help to increase employee retention through: Improved communication and cooperation Improved morale and employee satisfaction

The 10 Principals of Kaizen* 1) Say no to the status quo – Gone are the days of, “If something works, leave it alone”. In Kaizen, it is assumed that everything can work better; 2) If something is wrong, fix it - some people will operate off the principle of being able to “live with it”; 3) Accept no excuses and make things happen - It may become necessary to convince workers that new methods will be better.

The 10 Principals of Kaizen* (continued) 4) Improve everything continuously - The improvement never ends; 5) Abolish old, traditional concepts - Just b/c something has “always worked that way”, doesn’t mean it can’t work better; 6) Be economical - Save money through small improvements and reinvest that savings into further improvements; 7) Empower EVERYBODY - execute the belief that everybody can add value to the improvements…not just the top people;

So let’s make this “Lean” Kaizen Works By: Reducing waste (muda) Eliminating difficult work processes (muri) Encouraging & welcoming ALL suggestions No negative consequences for participating
