2 Introduction In epidemiology, prevalence is the proportion of a particular population found to be affected by a medical condition and disease burden is the impact of a health problem in an area measured by financial cost, mortality, morbidity, or other indicators. Due to huge number of population, Bangladesh faces double burden of diseases : Communicable diseases & Non- Communicable diseases. 2Wednesday, February 27, 2019

Non-Communicable diseases are: Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases, Hypertension, Stroke, Chronic respiratory diseases, Cancer and Communicable diseases: Tuberculosis, HIV, Tetanus, Malaria, Measles, Rubella, leprosy and so on. The health problems of Bangladesh include communicable and non-communicable disease, malnutrition, environmental sanitation problems, and others. 3Wednesday, February 27, 2019

4 Hospital Number in Bangladesh In 2015 the total number of hospitals in Bangladesh was 1683. Of these 1683 hospitals, 678 were government hospitals and 1005 were non-governmental (Statistical Pocket Book of Bangladesh). 4Wednesday, February 27, 2019

5 Aim and objectives The survey was conducted for finding the condition of hospitalized patients of 3 different hospitals at Jessore sadar area. The main target of the study can be pointed as: Determination of the prevalence of disease burden in Jessore city. 5Wednesday, February 27, 2019

6 Cont. Determination of the risk assessment (age and sex groups) among groups. Compare among government and private hospitals based on the medical facilities and need. Find the effect of seasonal change on prevalence of hospitalized patients Wednesday, February 27, 2019 6

7 Methods Pre study survey To collect data we selected Sadar(250 bedded) hospital which one is government hospital, queens hospital (100 bedded private hospital ) and sishu hospital (73 bedded). Permission form hospital To conduct this survey we need to get permission from each hospital. For that we submitted application forwarded by our chairman. We asked and permitted for 3 months access in each hospital. 7Wednesday, February 27, 2019

34 concluding remakes Total 1058 (782 in JSH, 124 in QH and 152 in SH) patients were interviewed. Male are found higher in number at Government hospital but females are higher in number at private hospital may be due to better environment. 35 Non communicable diseases (operation and broken injuries, stroke) were responsible for more hospitalization in adults but in children, communicable diseases (diarrhea, pneumonia and fever) are more prevalent. The study were performed for three consecutive months, thus seasonal pattern cannot be analyzed. Wednesday, February 27, 2019 35
