3. WHAT IS ROLLTOP? Rolltop is actually a folding computer concept that resembles with a roller painter, when unfolded through a similar action of a roller painter, it turns into an all through touch-screen display with the ability to work as a conventional laptop or a full-fledged 17 inch screen for better visibility.

4. BRIEF HISTORY/ORIGIN Rolltop device was developed by a German designer, Evgeny Orkin. Orkin thought of the roll-top laptop when working on his thesis for school. He was interring at Schlagheck-Design in Germany under the direction of Julian Schlagheck, who specializes in product design, print design and product development.

5. CONT… The main goal behind developing Roll-top technology was to combine the laptop monitor and graphic tablet into one gadget and avoid additional accessories”. A team under Orkin started to work on this concept in 2009 and finalized it after a few months of intensive work. Their very first steps were not directly related to a production of Rolltop. Their primary intention was to demonstrate their vision and concept to people and get feedback.

HOW ROLLTOP WORK/MODE OF OPERATION After unlocking the catch, the users would roll out the Rolltop display like a mat and then either leave it flat for 17-inch tablet computing, or rise one end up for something resembling a notebook. The lower part of the screen is then used for keying on a virtual, onscreen keyboard while the upper part becomes a 13- inch display for viewing content. A pull-out support at the back allows the flattened device to be used as a monitor-like display, and a stylus pen has been incorporated into the body of the panel.
