7 IB Students at College In a 2012 study of diverse alumni from IB Programmes in Chicago public schools, researchers from the University of Chicago found that, compared to a matched sample, Diploma Programme students are more likely to Enroll in college Attend a more selective college Stay enrolled in college

8 IB Students at College The average acceptance rate of IB students into university/college is 22% higher than the average acceptance rate of the total population. The acceptance rate of IB students into Ivy League institutions (Princeton, Yale, Brown, Harvard, etc.) is between 3% and 13% higher compared to the total population rate. A 2011 study of IB students found that IB students graduated from college at higher rates (81% to 57%)

12 IB Curriculum Students study six courses at higher level or standard level See Handout Students must choose one subject from each of the groups 1-5 Language A1 World Language Individual and societies (humanities / socials studies) Experimental sciences Mathematics and computer sciences The sixth subject may be an arts subject or another subject from groups 1-5 Of the six subjects: Three subjects for High Level (HL) Two-year course of study a minimum of 240 hours Three subjects for Standard Level (SL) Single-year course of study a minimum of 150 hours

18 IB Assessments External Exams High Level (HL) courses
Given during senior year 6 exams or more (several classes have two or three)—approximately 90 minutes each (times vary for each exam) Receive results in July Recognition dinner High Level (HL) courses Requires Internal Assessments Standard Level (SL) courses

19 IB Grading System All courses are scored on a 1-7 scale
Based on the external exam 4 is normal score No grade “1” in any HL or SL subject No more than three grades “3” or below HL courses must add up to at least 12. 24 points needed to earn a diploma May earn “3” additional points from TOK / Extended essay May not fail either portion of this and receive the diploma. Max points:45

20 Cost of the IB Programme
Student application fee $168 one time fee per testing year Diploma Candidates are paid for by district Course fee $116 per IB subject (district supplements to make cost comparable to AP tests District pays for English, Sciences and Math Only for IBD Candidates Free / reduced lunch Payment is reduced

21 Common Questions Will IB and AP classes be combined?
Will my student take both the AP and IB external exams? If I do not complete the CAS or Extended essay, will I earn an Academic Honors Diploma? Will the IB diploma translate into dual credits? Can I take summer school courses to reduce the number of required high school credits that I need to take during the school year to graduate?
