Political Corruption in Industrial Revolution
Many politicians chose to work with corrupt business men and corrupt gang leaders Received $$ for campaigns Got them the votes they needed voter fraud Affected every level of government President Congress city gov’t

Political Machines Political Machines were organizations controlled by a “boss” who exchange votes for political favors and/or money. The most famous was Tammany Hall of NYC Controlled by the infamous Boss Tweed Corrupt but efficient Provided a political voice for immigrants (especially the Irish)

Bias Prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair. How can you tell if something is biased? Only shows one side of the issue Relies on only one source Uses language which characterizes a thing person or group as lesser Purposefully misinterprets the evidence Author has an agenda which would prejudice them against a certain thing person or group

Today’s Activity Step 1 – Read the documents titled “Anti-Tammany Hall” and “Pro-Tammany Hall.” Step 2 – Pick a side (pro or anti). Step 3 - Use the documents to write a paragraph giving me at least THREE reasons to support your argument (why are you pro? Why are you anti?) Must be in complete sentences.
