2 Copy down these definitions in your notebook: Plagiarism: taking someone elses work or ideas and passing them off as your own Paraphrasing: to express the meaning of a piece of text using different words In order to avoid plagiarism, we paraphrase.

4 Key Words Brainstorm a list of key words from the video. – These are words that you CANT change if youre putting it into your own words. – If you were doing research, you wouldnt be able to change these words, because they are essential to understanding the condition. Now, write a 5 sentence summary of the video, using all of the key words we brainstormed, but no other actual phrasings you heard – in other words, paraphrase!

5 Paraphrasing --to say it in your own words Step 1: Find one or two sentences in the article that you think are important. Write that/those sentence(s) word for word. Step 2: Below the actual words from the article, paraphrase what is said. Use your own words to say something with the same meaning. ONLY repeat key words when paraphrasing. Step 3: On the back write one or two sentences about why this information is important.

6 Paraphrasing --to say it in your own words From the article: I think so many football injuries can be prevented if you teach the proper fundamentals of blocking and tackling….The big thing is, teaching the kids not to hit with their heads.
