Inheritance In Christ we are given an inheritance check We can lose that check by: - Falling Away - Apostasy (falling to false doctrines) - Forsaking (turning to something else) 1,000,000.00 2Co 1:22 who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge. Eph 1:13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, Eph 4:30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
9
You Need To Know: Anyone can fall away Falling away is leaving Christ There are major consequences to leaving You can return It is not difficult to remain faithful
10
Anyone Can Fall Away Jude 1:5
But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. The warning about falling away is the most common admonition of the New Testament 46 Teachings in the NT Story of Israel in the Exodus
11
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
Anyone Can Fall Away 1 Corinthians 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
12
Anyone Can Fall Away Galatians 5:4
You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
13
Anyone Can Fall Away 1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,
14
Anyone Can Fall Away Hebrews 2:1
Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
15
Anyone Can Fall Away Hebrews 10:26-27a
For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment
16
Anyone Can Fall Away 2 Timothy 4:10
Devoted disciples can fall away 2 Timothy 4:10 Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Col 4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, sends you his greetings, and also Demas. Phm 1:24 as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow workers.
17
Anyone Can Fall Away I Corinthians 9:27
Apostles can fall away I Corinthians 9:27 But I (Paul) discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
18
Anyone Can Fall Away Galatians 2:11
Apostles can fall away Galatians 2:11 But when Cephas (Peter) came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.
19
Leaving Christ Hebrews 10:25-29 Falling away means: - Leaving God in Christ and the Spirit - Forsaking the church family - Rejecting salvation Heb 10:25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. 26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. 28 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
20
Major Consequences James 4:4
1. God is no longer your friend James 4:4 Adulterers! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
21
Major Consequences 2 Thessalonians 3:14
1. God is no longer your friend 2. The church cannot keep company with you 2 Thessalonians 3:14 If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he will be put to shame.
22
Major Consequences 2 Peter 2:20-21
For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them. 1. God is no longer your friend 2. The church cannot keep company with you 3. Your condition is now worse than ever
23
You Can Return When someone leaves, are they lost forever? YES – in that they have no hope Hebrews 6:4-6 Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
24
You Can Return When someone leaves, are they lost forever? YES – in that they have no hope Hebrews 6:4-6 NO – in that they can return James 5: John 1:9 James 5:19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. 1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
25
You Can Return We can return because of covenant rules Like the marriage covenant: - We are “adulterers” when in violation No benefit to our relationship - The covenant is still present We can be reconciled 1Co 7:11 (but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not divorce his wife. 2Th 3:15 Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother
26
Staying Faithful Isn’t Hard
2 Peter 1:5-11 For as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble 2Pe 1:5 ¶ Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.

Staying Faithful Isn’t Hard
The consequences of being faithful are best - God is with you - Your brethren will carry you 2Pe 1:5 ¶ Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
29
