5 Industrial training aims to nurture the student’s interpersonal skills as well as to expose them to the general workplace environment and key responsibilities of quantity surveyors Compulsory to all UTAR QS students prior to graduation 26 weeks of training under a registered /qualified /experienced QS or Contract Executive 3rd June – 30th November

13 Pre-requisites To be entitled for Industrial training, student must, at October 2018: earned at least 52 credit hours after October trimester. achieved CGPA 2.0 or above, based on October trimester result. have normal status i.e. not on probation - GPA 2.0 or above based on October 2018 trimester result.

Results of January Trimester will not be considered Students on probation at May taking pass fail subject during October 2018 trimester will still be on probation and thus not eligible Students are not allowed to conduct their industrial training in their last trimester. If you have to do so, please write the reason clearly in pre-registration form to explain why you could not conduct industrial training in the other trimesters, and your current study plan. Approval is subjected to your justification.

20 IT Pre-registration & IT Postponement
Students who wish to undergo the industrial training MUST PRE-REGISTER with IT Coordinator and prepare an e-Resume (Due date: Friday, Week 3). Students who are eligible but wish to postpone the industrial training as in the course structure MUST submit IT postponement form to IT Coordinator (Due date: Friday, Week 3). Those are eligible but failed to submit IT pre-registration or postponement form have to meet the IT chairman and Deputy Dean (Dr Lim Jee Hock) to explain their problem. Case will be recorded.

23 Placement of IT (Option A: Faculty Arrangement)
A list of companies which are classified as LKC FES Industrial Training Cooperative Partner (ITCP) will be posted on website/ . In principle, the University will assist student to arrange an industrial training placement in an ITCP listed company. The student must communicate with lecturer-in-change for the positions advertised by the Faculty through lecture-in-charge. The company may interview, or may just accept the student recommended by the Faculty via lecture in charge. However, once the arrangement is done, the student must accept the offer; otherwise, the student will need to withdraw the registration of industrial training.

24 Placement of IT (Option B: Self-Applying)
Refer to the company lists provided. Call the company for availability first! Obtain the following: Name, Address, Contact Person, Contact & Tel & Fax No. Company may ask for UTAR support letter for placement application, obtain it from your IT coordinator. Avoid applying to too many companies at one time, as companies do not prefer students keep rejecting offers. Example of Faculty Company List:

25 Option C: Search for Own Company
Find company which offers industrial training relevant to your programme. Search the Internet or newspaper etc. Ask lecturers, family members, relatives and friends for recommendations. Call the company for availability first! Work conducted in the selected company should be able to cover all the IT course outcomes.

26 Industrial training/placement outside Malaysia
Students are allowed to undergo the industrial training abroad. It is compulsory for student to purchase international medical and hospitalization insurance. Students must fulfill the immigration requirements of the designated country of the industrial training/placement. DCInterNet and DISS will be informed to assist the student in applying for the necessary (e.g. application of visa, purchase of insurance, letters of indemnity, etc.). Kindly contact the International Division of the University for any assistance or clarifications on immigration matters.

27 Application for Overseas Internship
The duration of internship/ research can be one (1) trimester or more; up to a maximum of one academic year. Usually, there is no stipend or allowance for the duration of the internship/ research at host institution. No tuition, registration and administrative fees are charged unless stated otherwise and agreed by both institutions. Applicants are required to pay for their return airfare, transport, meals, accommodation, books, stationery and other living expenses during the internship at the host institution. The application form for internship can be obtained from DCInterNet website at Applications are subject to approval by both UTAR and the selected host institution. 28 Support Letter This letter is issued by faculty and is often required by companies as proof that students are seeking placement for industrial training. Issuance of this letter is done automatically when you COMPLETE the online pre- registration form

29 Remember!! Student must follow up with the company regarding the application status Student holding any scholarship is required to consult with his/her sponsor of industrial placement prior to application to other company. DO NOT apply multiple companies at one time.

30 Indemnity Letter There are 2 types of indemnity letter:
Letter of Undertaking & Indemnity for UTAR Given By Student Letter of Undertaking & Indemnity for UTAR Given By Parents/ Guardian Submmitted during online IT placement confirmation All the documents must be submitted to the coordinators latest by week 14 of trimester.

38 1. How much is the training allowance?
Although it is expected that company accepting students for internship provides allowances, it is not a requirement. The amount of allowance ranges from RM350 to RM

Consultancy firm is recommended Depend on location, benefits, interest and etc. Tips: Choose Company that you wish to work for.
