2. What Inspired the Project ?

Children were playing in the playground. They saw a beehive on a tree and they started to throw stones at it.
Bees got frightened and left their home.
This made me very unhappy.
Bees produced honey for us
They are good creatures, very useful,
Let us not harm animals !

3. PROBLEM to be ADDRESSED
Bees are amongst the most important creatures on Earth.
Honey bees are disappearing globally at an alarming rate
Honey bee populations are in trouble.
Honey bee shortage threatens crop pollination.
Lack of crop pollination causes food availability problem and lead to starvation
So, without bees, human population also in trouble!
Bees are amongst the most important creatures on Earth.
Honey bees are disappearing globally at an alarming rate due to pesticides, parasites disease and habitat loss and also honey bee shortage threatens crop pollination. There is no doubt that honey bee populations are in trouble.

So, without bees, human population also in trouble!

4. GOALS and OBJECTIVES to be ACHIEVED
To increase bee population and honey production.
To provide sustainable job opportunities for the women who live in countryside.
To provide income for the poor families.
To prevent the decline of the population in rural areas.
To protect the environment.

5. Geographical Area and Communities
Geographical area is selected as Antalya/Demre province
Antalya occupies the first row in beekeeping and honey production in Turkey .
Mild climate, rainy winters, diverse flora
Good environment for mother bee production
Attractive tourist location and attractive market

6. People to Directly Benefit
As a pilot work, 7 groups with 3 families each ( totaling 21 families) will take part
Each will be given 30 beehives( total 210 beehives)
Finally all the consumers in Antalya region
Other consumers where Antalya food is exported

7. Project Strategy and Plan of Action
Partnership with Beekeeping Union at Antalya
Selected families to be trained
7 groups of 3 families each with 30 beehives for each group
One responsible identified for each group
Protective clothing, gloves and other necessary equipment to be distributed
Groups are to be trained for beekeeping
Honey to be brought to the market with LIONS LOGO on jars
