2 Welcome to Ms. Sutton’s Class!

3 Welcome! Welcome to Somerset Academy’s Open House! I am Ms. Sutton and I am very delighted to be your child’s 2nd grade teacher. This is my fourteenth year teaching at Somerset Academy. I have also taught thirteen years in Miami –Dade County. I have two amazing children, my daughter attends Somerset’s Conservatory Arts School in the eleventh grade. My son attends Barry University Fire Academy. Our Teacher Assistant is Ms. V and together, we are pleased to be part of your child’s learning journey this year.

4 Curriculum The 2nd grade curriculum consists of Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Our curriculum follows the Florida Standards (LAFS and MAFS), and writing is infused with the Reading portion. This provides your child with a well-rounded and complete education. We utilize Journeys Reading Curriculum and Go Math Curriculum by Harcourt. Along with the textbooks, I will also incorporate Scholastic News, educational websites, such as I-Ready, and 2nd grade novels into their learning and enrichment. Novels include: 1. Magic Tree House- Midnight on the Moon 2. Magic Tree House- Thanksgiving on Thursday *** Please keep these books at home until you’re asked to send them in.
