19 Jesus increased…in favor with God and with man-Lk 2:52
Teammates February 3, 2019 Lee Bennett

20 Review of past two lessons
Jesus increased in wisdom Jesus increased in stature

21 Warning! “After the LORD had finished speaking to Job, He said to Eliphaz the Temanite: ‘I am angry with you and with your two friends, for you have not been right in what you said about Me as my servant Job has… My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer on your behalf. I will not treat you as you deserve, for you have not been right in what you said about Me as my servant Job was… When Job prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes…” Job 42:7-10 (The Living Translation)

22 Why did Jesus become human?
“Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in human form. …Therefore it was necessary for Jesus to be in every respect like us, His brothers and sisters, so that He could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Since He Himself has gone through suffering and temptation, He is able to help us when we are being tempted.” Heb. 2:14-18 (The Living Translation)

23 Why did Jesus become human?
“That is why we have a great High Priest who has gone to heaven, Jesus the Son of God. Let us cling to Him and never stop trusting Him. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same temptations we do, yet He did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it.” Heb. 4:14-16 (The Living Translation)

24 Table talk #1 Discuss what you consider to be the top five things that God expects of you in order to “find favor” with Him. Rate them in terms of importance: #1, #2, etc. Feedback from the tables

25 God’s own list of expectations
Adam & Eve-what would you say? Gen. 2-3 Cain & Abel-what did you do or say? Gen. 4 Noah-what would you say? Gen 6:9 Abraham & Sarah-how about you? Gen. 15:6 Moses-a word? Deut. 6:5; Heb. 11:24-28 David-as he faced Goliath? I Sam. 17:45-47 Heroes Hall of Faith-Heb. 11:6 “Without faith…”

26 The Secret of pleasing God
“Trust & Obey” version by Big Daddy Weave (Just do 1 minute 45 seconds, please) Obviously – you can now listen to the whole song, but Lee’s point is made in 1m 45s.

27 Table talk #2 Jesus increased in “favor” with mankind. How do you think He did this? How can we imitate Him or live out what He is doing within us? Table feedback

28 Can we cultivate favor with mankind?
Was Moses popular in Egypt? Ex. 11:3 Was Goliath popular among the Philistines? Was Saul popular among the Israelites? Was David also popular? I Sam. 16; I Sam. 18:7, 16 Was Absalom popular? 2 Sam. 15:6 Was Solomon chosen king by popular vote? How could wise King Solomon raise such an unwise son, Rehoboam? How about Daniel and his 3 friends in Babylon? 1:20

29 Summary People look first at our exteriors: clothes, shape, hair, manner of acting & speaking, wealth, size of house, car we drive, where we were educated… God looks at our hearts: I Chron. 16:9, I Sam. 16:7; Deut. 19:10 “God is not a man…” He is looking for integrity: II Tim. 2:20-26
