Two Hopes Romans 1:16-18

Revelation of Hope Before the coming of Christ, what was hope? “Where now is my hope? And who regards my hope? Will it go down with me to Sheol? Shall we together go down into the dust?“ Job 17:15-16 Job was a man who had everything stripped away. All that he possessed was hope; but what was his hope in?

Revelation of Hope Before the coming of Christ, what was hope? "Though He slay me, I will hope in Him. Nevertheless I will argue my ways before Him.” Job 13:15 Job was a man who had everything stripped away. All that he possessed was hop; but what was his hope in?

Revelation of Hope Before the coming of Christ, what was hope?
"As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth. Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see God; Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes will see and not another. My heart faints within me!” Job 19:25-27 Job was a man who had everything stripped away. All that he possessed was hop; but what was his hope in?

Revelation of Hope Before Christ, the righteous hoped of more life David in Psalm 16:10 – Not leave me to decay Daniel in Daniel 12:2 – To awake to everlasting life Isaiah in Isaiah 26:19 – The dead shall live But their hope was not certified…… Nothing given in proof of this hope Isa 26:19 Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.

Revelation of Hope Then came the Gospel: Romans 1:16-18 Power of Salvation Revelation of life by Faith Revelation of the wrath of God Ro 1:16 ¶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

Revelation of Hope Then came the Gospel: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 – Jesus’ death & resurrection Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:3 1Co 15:1 ¶ Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Revelation of Hope Then came the Gospel: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 – Jesus’ death & resurrection His resurrection begets our resurrection Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power. 1 Corinthians 6:14

Revelation of Hope The Gospel: The hope of a resurrection Preaching the gospel – hope of resurrection “Brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees; I am on trial for the hope and resurrection of the dead!“ Acts 23:6

Revelation of Hope The Gospel: The hope of a resurrection Preaching the gospel – hope of resurrection “Having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked” Acts 24:15

Revelation of Hope The Gospel: The hope of a resurrection
Preaching the gospel – hope of resurrection “Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” John 3:2-3

Revelation of Hope The Gospel: The hope of a resurrection Preaching the gospel – revealed Hope at the end looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, Titus 2:13

Revelation of Hope The Gospel: The hope of a resurrection Preaching the gospel – a Hope in heaven because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel Colossians 1:5

Revelation of Hope The Gospel: The hope of a resurrection Preaching the gospel – a Hope not yet seen For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. Romans 8:24-25

Revelation of Hope This Gospel of resurrection is our One Hope There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; Ephesians 4:4

Nature of Our Hope It can be used to anchor us - Hebrews 6:18-19 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, Heb 6:18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. 19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Nature of Our Hope It can be used to anchor us – Hebrews 6:18-20 It can be used to protect - 1 Thessalonians 5:8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. 1Th 5:8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. 1Th 4:13 ¶ But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.

Nature of Our Hope It can be used to anchor us – Hebrews 6:18-20 It can be used to protect – 1 Thessalonians 5:8 It can give us joy - Romans 12:12 Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 1Th 5:8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. 1Th 4:13 ¶ But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.

Nature of Our Hope It can be used to anchor us – Hebrews 6:18-20 It can be used to protect – 1 Thessalonians 5:8 It can give us joy – Romans 12:12 It can be held for us - 1 Thessalonians 4:13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.

What is the Other “Hope”
Many in the world also have “hope” “I want to go to heaven” “I hope I go to heaven” Their hope is like a lottery ticket used There is no promise behind it Oregon Lottery warning – it is entertainment and not an investment

What is the Other “Hope”
The other hope is hopeless! Remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. Ephesians 2:12 Most 18 wheelers are unaware when they lost tire tread

There Are Two Hopes Hope of eternal life – the Gospel promise Hope of the world – hopeless before God You have only one or the other! Col 1:27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

How To Have Hope Hope begins with Christ in us – Colossians 1:27 Hope is only found in Christ – Romans 6:23 THEREFORE: those in Christ have real hope! Col 1:27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

How Do I Join Christ Hear and believe John 5:24
