About 5% to 10% of all cancers are thought to be related to gene mutations that are inherited or passed down through the family.
Having an inherited genetic mutation does not mean a person will get cancer. It means they are at a higher risk for developing a certain type or types of cancer.

They have several first - degree relatives
(mother, father, sisters, brothers) with cancer.
Or, if any relatives on one side of their family have had the same type of cancer.
If a cluster of cancers in their family are known to be linked to a single gene mutation (such as breast, ovarian, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers ).
* A family member has more than 1 type of cancer.
Family members have had cancer at a younger age
than normal for that type of cancer.

It is reported that 1 in 40 Ashkenazi Jewish women has a BRCA gene mutation, which is the most widely known genetic factor that can lead to breast cancer.

When meeting with a client for testing Check their health plan to see if we accept it.

Complete the Scope of Appointment (SOA)
Review this document with the Client and get their signature.
Complete the Questionnaire Form
Ask the qualifying questions to find out if the client pre-qualifies enough to move to the next step. If so,
Connect to a Clinical Admin through your iPad that AFFA will provide, if needed
The Clinical Admin will review or input the questionnaire form in the portal and connect
your client to the Clinician for final approval for the screening
Collect DNA – Cheek Swab, if approved
The Clinician will walk you through doing the Cheek Swab and packaging the sample. Mail the kit to the Corporate Office. It will be sent from there to the lab.
The lab will send the report to the client’s Healthcare provider and to the client.

However, the person being referred must call the AFFA Advocate for an appointment even if it is a family member being referred.

Once AFFA receives your Scope of Appointments you will receive your Test Kits, a Medical iPad, if needed, a User Name and Password . You can also use your own Smart Device.

The Clinical Admin will connect the client to the Clinician
The Clinician will check the re-verify client’s eligibility

The kits will be mailed to the lab by Corporate.
