Types of Professional Learning/Funding

TRI/State Professional Learning
Tech-based 8-hour requirement Courses highlighted in purple on the VPS PD Site Contracted pay (TRI PL on paycheck stub) Must be completed by December 15th Must be offered by VPS Once hours are complete, principal verifies attendance for Payroll If no hours or not the full hours are complete, January paycheck will be deducted No supplemental pay available for TRI/State courses

Optional Professional Development
16 hours of professional development Hours are OPTIONAL (not required) All hours are funded by the district Submit a supplemental contract upon completion of the course If you attend more than 16, the district will continue to pay for those hours Paid at individual hourly per diem rate

Individual Professional Development
$1000 of basic PD funds All hours are funded by the basic PD allocation Submit a supplemental contract upon completion of the course Paid at individual hourly per diem rate Once PD allocation is exhausted, can continue to attend for clock hour credit

Contract Day Professional Development
No supplemental pay available for full time Part-time employees can request supplemental pay if they are training on a non-work day Clock hours available

The Basics of PD funds PD fund year: July 1 – June 30
.4 FTE and above eligible for basic funds ($1000 guaranteed) 1.0 FTE and on a continuing/provisional contract, eligible for residual ($1500 non guaranteed) Residual funds can be used for college credit and registration fee (only) If on a OYC, PD funds end on the last student attendance day. Once you sign your annual contract, you will have access to funds as of that day.

What are Clock Hours? Clock hours are WA State approved credits for salary advancement and certificate renewal Clock hours must be from a WA State approved clock hour provider SLPs, Nurses, Psychologists, or OT/PTs have the option to submit CEU credit Submit certificate of completion and form SPI/CERT 4098V

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Who are we eligible to count CEUs for? An education associate may submit continuing education units (CEUs), credits or clock hours that satisfy the continuing education requirements for their state professional health license, for Washington and any other state, as in-service credits. What are the rules to continuing education credits? Credits must be a minimum of three (3) hours Credits are earned after August 31st, 1987; and after the awarding or conferring of the employee’s first bachelor’s degree 10 continuing education hours equals one quarter credit hour (ex. 10 CEU’s = 1.0 qtr. credit)

To be eligible, an education staff associate must hold the following Washington State Department of Health License: License advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) (WAC ) Licensed occupational therapist (WAC ) Licensed marriage and family therapist (counselor) (WAC ) Licensed mental health counselor ( WAC ) Licensed physical therapist (WAC ) Licensed psychologist (WAC ) Licensed registered nurse (RN) (WAC , -204, & -205), effective January 1, 2011 Licensed social worker (WAC ) Licensed speech-language pathologist or audiologist (WAC )

Summer Travel/Course Work
Courses with an end of July 1st or after are next years PD funds If traveling with a group of colleagues, be sure to provide individual receipts

PD Travel (out of state/3+ student attendance day)
Participant must submit a PD application and rationale to be reviewed by Teaching and Learning at least 20 days prior to the course start date

Salary Placement/Deadlines
All clock hours and college credit earned prior to October 1st will be counted for the salary placement Deadline to submit official transcript for college course work is 9/30/19 Deadline to submit clock hour or inservice registration forms is 9/30/19 All documentation to be submitted to Nadia Romaniv in Human Resources

ESD 112 Clock hours earned from ESD 112 are FREE (do not pay when you print your inservice registration form) Instructions are available on VPS staff portal and PD site

Credits Earned Documentation
To view/print VPS in-district clock hour credits earned, visit VPS PD site (updated manually) To view/print all credits earned, visit Skyward (updated 3x a year) The conversion for clock hour credit is 10 clock hours = 1 quarter credit. For example, .3 quarter credits = 3 clock hours. Login to Skyward, click on Employee Information tab, select Personal Information, click on the arrow next to Personnel, select Prof Development, click on View Edu & Exp Summary (upper right-hand corner), click Run, find Total Credits Instructions are also available on VPS staff portal and PD site

Per Diem Rate Login to Skyward, click on Employee Information tab, select Personal Information, click on the arrow next to Personnel, select Assignments, find Base contract line, click on the arrow to the left of Certificated, click on the arrow to the left of Payroll Information, find Hourly Rate Instructions are also available on VPS staff portal and PD site
