7 Last Will of Peter and Paul
2 Timothy Last Will of Peter and Paul Illustration of an inheritance Inheritances give us pleasure to think that after we are gone, something valuable will go to make better the lives of someone else

8 Two Apostolic Wills A Last Will and Testament: “A will or testament is a legal document by which a person, the testator, expresses their wishes as to how their property is to be distributed at death, and names one or more persons, the executor, to manage the estate until its final distribution” Seventy strangers from a phone directory: It’s the stuff of daydreams and film scripts. When Portuguese aristocrat Luis Carlos de Noronha Cabral da Camara wrote up his will, he left his considerable fortune to 70 strangers randomly chosen out of a Lisbon phone directory.

9 Peter & Paul’s Last Letter
Leaders of the church (local and universal) - Peter, an apostle and elder (1 Pet. 5:1) - Paul, an apostle and evangelist (Col. 1:23) What will we do without them? - Losing both leader and miraculous gifts - Facing difficult times We all want to be vital, but do any of us want to be irreplaceable? Would we want to be part of something that means that it wont work without us? Many religions fell apart once the dynamic leaders left. What would happen with Christianity

10 Peter & Paul’s Last Letter
Their message is NOT: - Look for other leaders like us to come - Expect another dispensation from God

11 Peter & Paul’s Last Letter
Peter’s message – 2 Peter 1:2-4, 21 Paul’s message – 2 Timothy 3: ) The Word of God is God-Breathed 2) The Word of God is All-Sufficient They are describing an EXECUTOR of their wills How their purposes will be carried out

12 The Inspired Word Being “God-Breathed” means 1) Scriptures are the manifestation of God Everything the Holy Spirit does is through them They cannot be destroyed or altered We do not need the Holy Spirit to understand Scriptures ARE the Holy Spirit working in us!

13 The Inspired Word Being “God-Breathed” means 1) Scriptures are the manifestation of God 2) Rejecting them is rejecting God We will be judged by God/the Scriptures If we don’t hear them, we don’t hear God Luke 16:31 John 13:20 Lu 16:31 "But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.'“ Joh 13:20 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me."

14 Perfect and Complete 1) Thoroughly equipping for every work: - Of a Christian - Of the church 2) No other revelation is necessary - Nothing else will come from God - Any claims otherwise ARE NOT FROM GOD

15 The Divine Executor Peter & Paul’s last message: The written word is all that we need - Wanting more is a mistake - Looking for more is dangerous This promise requires trust - Without faith Scriptures cannot work 2Ti 1:13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
