Attendance
Students are allowed a maximum of 10 absences per course each semester.
Students who have more than 10 absences will not receive credit for the course. They will receive an FF (failure due to attendance).
Having an excused absence allows the student to make up missed work, it does not remove the absence. ALL ABSENCES COUNT!!!!

7. SOAR – What is it?
SOAR is an enrichment time built into the schedule. Students are given the opportunity to remediate, relearn, or catch up on assignments.
Attendance is taken during SOAR.
Students attend 1st period SOAR on Mondays, 2nd period SOAR on Tuesday, 3rd period SOAR on Wednesdays, 4th period SOAR on Thursdays, and homeroom on Fridays.

8. Athletics Eligibility
There are several requirements that
first-time freshmen must meet to be
eligible to participate in high school sports:
Attendance – The student must have been in attendance for 85% of the year.
Academics – The student must have been promoted from 8th grade to 9th grade.
To continue to participate – Students must pass at least 3 out of 4 classes during the previous semester (this includes meeting the attendance requirements for each course).

EOC (End-of-Course)/NCFE (NC Final Exam)/CTE exams – required state exams for high school courses
Pre-ACT – required for all 10th graders – given for free at school during a regular school day (practice ACT)
ACT – required for all 11th graders – given for free once at school during the regular school day - may be used for 4-year college admission purposes
PSAT – offered to any 10th/11th grader, but is not required (practice SAT) – student pays to test
SAT – offered, but not required – taken for 4-year college admission purposes – student must register themselves online and pay to test
ASVAB – offered to any 11th/12th grader, but not required - military entrance exam – given for free to students who sign up to test
WorkKeys – required for 12th graders who have a CTE concentration – given for free during the regular school day

The College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college-level classes that you can take while still in high school. They offer challenging course work and a taste of what college classes are like. (

To skip introductory courses in college
Please note AP courses are Writing Intensive. 8th graders should be enrolled in English I now to be eligible for AP Biology.

22. Choosing Quality/Rigor – CCP
Career and College Promise (CCP) is a program for current high school students in the 11th or 12th grade that have an unweighted GPA of 2.8+.
CCP are college-level classes taken through Lenoir Community College. Students can earn college credits as well as high school credits.
CCP courses listed on the General Education College Transfer Pathways will transfer to a 4-year college/university
with a grade earned of “C” or better.
Some CCP courses substitute/supplant
graduation required courses.
CCP as well as AP courses carry
the highest quality points (5.0) and
help build a strong grade point average (GPA).

23. Transfer CCP Crosswalk
Students should use the websites on p. 6 to plan. Eligible students that plan ahead can maximize their opportunity to gain free college credit while in high school.
Eligible students should plan to take a combination of AP and CCP courses while in high school.
Students should check online to determine exactly what college course credits they have obtained with their qualifying AP scores.
It is best practice not to take CCP courses that a student already has credit for based on their AP scores.

Review the Registration Sheet (copy in your packet – pages ) and adhere to the directions outlined:
Students should select 8 first choice courses including the minimum 5 required (English, math, science, social studies, and Health/PE)
Students should choose 3 elective courses and 3 alternate elective courses
All math and honors/AP level courses must be approved by your current middle school teachers
Use the Graduation Requirements List (page 3 in your packet) when selecting courses.
It is a good idea to have a 4-year high school plan.
