HEART WAKE UP Romans 13:11-13 (NKJV)
11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.

HEART WAKE UP Romans 13:11-12 (NLT)
11 This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living

HEART WAKE UP The Apostle Paul is trying to bring a sense of urgency to the Church, and a warning that he was recognizing that people had fallen asleep, and he was shouting, “wake up.” He was not speaking of waking up in the natural, as though they sleep in bed, but he was declaring that their hearts, that used to be awake, had gone to sleep and it was with a sense of urgency that he was calling them to wake their hearts up and become intentional with their lives in God again.

A Sleeping Church Can’t See
Ephesians 1:17-18 (NKJV) 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

HEART WAKE UP HEART WAKE UP
Today we will look a three different accounts where people’s hearts were asleep: 1. Samson 2. Elijah 3. The Disciples on the Road to Emmaus. We will ask and answer three important questions: What caused their hearts go to sleep? How did their hearts wake up? How do we keep our hearts fully alive and awake for the rest of our lives?
8
1. What caused their hearts go to sleep? SAMSON
Judges 13:3-5 (NIV) 3 The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, “You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son. 4 Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean.
9
1. What caused their hearts go to sleep? SAMSON
Judges 13:3-5 (NIV) 5 You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”
10
1. What caused their hearts go to sleep? SAMSON
Judges 16:18-19 (NIV) 18 When Delilah saw that he had told her everything, she sent word to the rulers of the Philistines, “Come back once more; he has told me everything.” So the rulers of the Philistines returned with the silver in their hands. 19 After putting him to sleep on her lap, she called for someone to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him. And his strength left him.
11
Samson’s Heart went to sleep because of habitual sin
God had a covenant relationship with Samson. He continually disobeyed God, yet he still never lost the strength that God gave him. He was called to be a deliverer His sin caused his heart to go to sleep (asleep to God his calling and what is really important) He shared the secret of his strength He fell asleep, and when he woke up his strength was gone
12
1. What caused their heart to go to sleep? Elijah
1 Kings 19:4 (NKJV) But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”
13
1. What caused their heart to go to sleep? Elijah
1 Kings 19:10 (NKJV) So he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”
14
Elijah’s heart fell asleep because of burn out, isolation, and pride
Burnt out: fighting for the truth, Jezebel Isolation: 7000 left Pride: I am the only one
15
1. What caused their hearts to go asleep
1. What caused their hearts to go asleep? The Disciples on the Road to Emmaus Luke 24:13-16 (NKJV) 13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.
16
The Disciples hearts fell asleep on the Road to Emmaus because of discouragement and unbelief
Luke 24:25 (NKJV) Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Their unbelief and disappointment had caused them to be unable to see what was right in front of their faces Their hearts had gone to sleep and they were blind
17
2. How did their hearts wake up? Samson
Judges 16:22, 28 (NLT) 22 But before long, his hair began to grow back 28 Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes.”
18
2. How did their hearts wake up? Samson
Judges 16:22-30 (NLT) 29 Then Samson put his hands on the two center pillars that held up the temple. Pushing against them with both hands, 30 he prayed, “Let me die with the Philistines.” And the temple crashed down on the Philistine rulers and all the people. So he killed more people when he died than he had during his entire lifetime
19
Repentance and Relationship
Samson asked God to remember him again His hair was important in the story because part of his covenant relationship with God was that he was not to cut his hair, but sexual addiction had caused him to lose that
20
Repentance and Relationship
The hair was just an outer sign of what was going on in his heart But his natural loss of sight and imprisonment had caused his heart to awaken Samson is listed in the Hall of Faith: Chapter 11 of Hebrews
21
2. How did their hearts wake up? Elijah
1 Kings 19:11-12 11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice
22
Alone with God and Hearing His Voice
Elijah came to the end of himself. He had lost hope and was even tormented in heart and mind. He was running away from his calling and fight. He even became suicidal. Sometimes the Lord uses your circumstances to drive you to be alone with Him and for your heart to awaken at His still small voice.
23
2. How did their hearts wake up?
Luke 24:30-32 30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
24
The Word and Fellowship
The Disciples on the Road to Emmaus: they had fellowship with Jesus, and His words woke back up their discouraged hearts. His words caused their hearts to burn within them and come alive again I want to highlight something they said, though, about their hearts burning : while He opened the Scriptures to us
25
The Word and Fellowship
Their hearts woke up when the revelation of the Word of God came to them The eyes of their heart open in fellowship with Jesus (breaking of bread) The Lord’s Supper
26
3. How do we keep our hearts fully alive and awake for the rest of our lives?
We all have had seasons when our hearts were fully engaged and alive When we were full of passion and our hearts could see clearly but life happened: pain, disappointment, lose, betrayal, loneliness, failure, weariness, hopelessness, boredom, and so on And your heart goes into a slumber often as a self- protection
27
3. How do we keep our hearts fully alive and awake for the rest of our lives?
In this hour of Church history we must Wake up and Stay Awake!! The Slumbering Church will get taken out by the enemy We must do the things to wake up our hearts and keep them awake
28
3. How do we keep our hearts fully alive and awake for the rest of our lives?
This is a time men’s hearts will fail them and a great falling away will happen with those of slumbering hearts We can see truths in the lives of three examples what is perlative for you to do to get your heart awake and keep it awake
29
Accountability
30
Accountability Hebrews13:17
Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit
31
Fellowship
32
Fellowship 1 John 1:3-7 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ… 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
