Governor’s School Information sessions
Dudley HS –Thurs., Oct. 4 – 6:00 pm SW Guilford HS – Tues., Oct. 9 – 6:00 pm 5½ week summer program No cost Juniors may apply in academics or cultural arts Sophomores may apply in dance or music 92nd percentile or higher on EOC exam

Tips for Success Maintain academic rigor in your course selections each school year Use PowerSchool to track your grades Conference as needed with teachers Utilize Peer Tutoring and teacher tutoring Peer Tutoring Mondays/Wednesday 3:45-4:45 Media Center Take at least 1 college entrance exam before the end of your junior year Finish every year STRONG academically (Junior year GPA is used for college applications)

ACT SAT The re-designed SAT – March 2016 Curriculum based achievement test Optional essay No penalty for guessing Relevant vocabulary Math formulas provided Score range: each section (essay score range: 2-8 reported separately) Measures academic achievement Curriculum based achievement test Includes a science section Optional essay No penalty for guessing Score range 1-36 Each test section is scored and averaged to equal the composite score Mention upcoming test dates! Super scoring. All juniors will take the ACT for free in February at NGHS.

Juniors and Seniors attend GTCC tuition free Must pay for fees, parking, and books Pell Grant is NOW available College Transfer Pathway Must have a weighted GPA of 3.0 Career/Technical Pathway Courses are guaranteed to transfer to NC Colleges/Universities Courses can be taken at any campus

SERVICE LEARNING Hands on experience connecting an academic concept with a real world experience. Graduating seniors who achieve 100 hours of service-learning throughout high school receive the Exemplary Award Those that achieve 250 hours of service-learning will earn a Service-Learning Diploma and a cord Web-based tracking and reporting platform exclusively for high school students and staff “Intelligence plus character – that is the true goal of education.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

GCS Service Learning Ambassador
A GCS Service Learning Ambassador is a high school student that has been trained on how to engage in service learning experiences. They become knowledgeable in ways to support their peers and school in service learning initiatives. Applications available in guidance Applications DUE Friday, October 12th 2 Students chosen to attend training on October 20th Priority given to juniors and seniors

Applications are now available for the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. We invite all high school students to apply! Applications are available in the guidance office or on guidance webpage All applications are due by Wednesday, October 10, 2018.
