USE OF LANGUAGE USE OF LANGUAGE CONTEXT EFFECT OF THIS USE OF LANGUAGE IN THIS CONTEXT In the poem ‘’In Flanders Fields’’ the poet uses techniques like ALLITERATION and CAESURA to UNDERLINE just how short the soldier’s lives are. The use of powerful imagery, the blood-red poppies, is completely in tune with the savagery of the trench war. The poem is split into three separate stanzas, each illustrating a distinct part of their lives. The poet’s intent is to show us that we must not forget the Dead, who have been robbed of their lives, their voices and even of their identity.The personification of the dead gives them back the voices they have lost and ultimately, this ghostly image underlines the importance of continuing the fight, otherwise they will have died for nothing...
