Themes We will continue Theme work from yesterday.
You will share theme statements and T-charts with the whole group. Explain your work: Is the evidence relevant? If not, what other evidence might be used? Is there enough textual evidence? If not, what additional evidence might be used? Is the evidence clearly explained? If not, what more can be said to explain how the moments convey the theme? After each pair shares, I will ask the whole group: • Does the textual evidence provided support the identified theme? (i.e., Is the evidence relevant?) If not, what other evidence might be used? • Is there enough textual evidence to support the identified theme? (i.e., Is the evidence adequate?) If not, what additional evidence might be used? • Is the evidence clearly explained? If not, what more can be said to explain how the moments convey the theme?

Theme Revisions Revise your theme with your partner after answering these questions: • Does the textual evidence provided support the identified theme? (i.e., Is the evidence relevant?) If not, what other evidence might be used? • Is there enough textual evidence to support the identified theme? (i.e., Is the evidence adequate?) If not, what additional evidence might be used? • Is the evidence clearly explained? If not, what more can be said to explain how the moments convey the theme?

Interpretation Model I will review the notes between Janet and Richard and generating one or two observations about the form in which this text is written. General observations: Each note begins with a salutation and Viorst creates a distinct identity for Janet (e.g., Janet: repetition of note that states, “I pitch.”).

Interpretation Craft the next three or four notes between Richard and Janet.

Closure Submit extended notes.
