EOCT REVIEW

4 Objective 6 SWBAT apply base pair rules to transcribe and translate a DNA strand Lets make some proteins yo

5 Objective 6 SWBAT apply base pair rules to transcribe and translate a DNA strand - I can explain the differences between DNA and RNA. - I can explain each step of the Central Dogma. - I can correctly transcribe and translate strands of DNA and RNA.

6 So we need to make some proteins to do work in the cell…
First we will need some PLANS! DNA molecules are the plans in our body used to create proteins. They are made up of nucleotide bases.

7 The nucleotide base pairs!
In DNA: -Adenine (A) pairs with Thymine (T) -Cytosine (C) pairs with Guanine (G) In RNA: -Adenine (A) pairs with Uracil (U) A: T C: G A: U C: G

8 Where is DNA found? DNA is found in the NUCLEUS of a eukaryotic cell.
Create the complementary strand below: AGCTATTGGCAT

9 So we’ve got our plans… Now we have to use that DNA to create mRNA. (mESSENGER rna) mRNA is a message that can be sent to the machinery of the cell so they can make proteins! TRANSCRIPTION: DNA is “read” to create messenger RNA (mRNA) So we have…ACCGAATAAAGGGAT (template DNA strand) Now you create the rest of the mRNA!

10 Our message is complete!
Now it has to travel outside the nucleus and go to the machinery of the cell that will actually BUILD the protein. Where should I go boss?!

11 To the ribosome! Yo ribosome, read me to make proteins bro
Aw yea lets translate!!!

12 Ribosomes Ribosomes are the machinery that read mRNA to create proteins. Located in the cytoplasm.

13 Ribosomes While they are reading mRNA, they signal tRNA (transfer RNA) to bring in Amino Acids, the building blocks of proteins.

14 TRANSLATION: Ribosomes reading mRNA to create protein!
Thanks for making me guys!!! I’m the best protein everr…But now I have to go facilitate some diffusion in the cell membrane…right to work! No problem bro, peace
