Select the COMPUTER NAME tab
Choose START / MY COMPUTER / right click on the My Computer icon and choose PROPERTIES from the menu. Select the COMPUTER NAME tab Select the CHANGE button Gurpreet Singh CSE/IT

In the Workgroup text box, type a workgroup name of your choice and click OK.
In the Computer Name text box, type a user name.....] . This name must be unique in the Network! No Duplications of a Computer Name is allowed! Gurpreet Singh CSE/IT

Click OK at the bottom of this window. A message box will appear, these changes will not take effect until the computer is restarted, Click OK. After completing the above steps, restart the computer, come back to this location to verify that you have changed to this Workgroup. Gurpreet Singh CSE/IT

Click on Access Control tab, enable Share-level access control

Next click the Configuration tab and you should see the following.

Now highlight TCP/IP for your NIC like in the picture below - then click the properties button.

Select specify an IP address and enter the numbers exactly as they appear below.
On the second machines use the same numbers except increment the last digit for each machine. Example the second machine would be and a third machine would be The subnet Mask stays the same for all machines and in this example we are using Gurpreet Singh CSE/IT

Checking connection Open a DOS-Prompt window on the computer and type ping and you should see data returned showing the ping time between the two computers. Gurpreet Singh CSE/IT

Other computer in the Network only shows you the SHARED FOLDER.
You should be able to see each computer by clicking on My Network Places from your desktop. To view other computers Folders and Files you must now share those items. Other computer in the Network only shows you the SHARED FOLDER. Gurpreet Singh CSE/IT

Sharing files and folders
Right click on the drive and select sharing and security The disk or folder that you share, along with all of the folders that it contains, will be accessible by other network users. Gurpreet Singh CSE/IT
