1 APTITUDE TEST By Dr. Neha Jain

2 Why do all companies use aptitude tests?

3 “Aptitude is basically defined as an acquired ability of an individual to perform certain tasks. It indicates the potential of the individual to perform well in that specific job role.” Studies have shown that overall the aptitude tests are quite accurate in predicting the potential for success. Technical or functional knowledge is not sufficient for success in a job role. Any job requires multiple skills such as strategising, analysing, planning, reasoning, comprehending, communicating, calculating, computer skills etc. Aptitude tests inculcate many factors like Numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, abstract reasoning, speed, accuracy, and other such abilities.

4 WHAT APTITUDE TESTS TELL COMPANIES ABOUT A CANDIDATE

5 Aptitude test helps to judge about the candidate
Ability to problem solve The ability to analyze situations The ability to reason The ability to think logically To take decisions based on data To take decisions based on past trends Ability to understand graphs, tables and charts The ability to comprehend written and verbal communication The ability to communicate well [verbal and written] Language and Grammar skills Basic numeric skills Advanced quantitative skills The ability to learn new things quickly The ability to detect patterns and establish relationships The ability to plan and strategise The ability to comprehend complex issues The ability to visualize Basic Computer Skills The ability to concentrate without getting distracted The use of working memory Attention to Detail

21 Number series Which one of the following is not a prime number?
A.31 B.61 C.71 D.91 (112 x 54) = ? A B C D.77200 What least number must be added to 1056, so that the sum is completely divisible by 23 ? A B.3 C.18 D.21 E.None of these

22 Number Series 1397 x 1397 = ? A B C D E.None of these

23 Continued……… 1397 x 1397= (1397)2 = (1400 - 3)2
= (1400)2 + (3)2 - (2 x 1400 x 3) = – 8400 = – 8400 =

24 Number Series The largest 4 digit number exactly divisible by 88 is:
E.None of these

25 Number Series Largest 4-digit number = 9999 88) 9999 (113 88 ---- 119
319 264 --- 55 Required number = ( ) = 9944.

26 Number Series What is the unit digit in
{(6374)1793 x (625)317 x (341491)}? A.0  B.2 C.3 D.5

27 Number Series Unit digit in (6374)1793 = Unit digit in (4)1793
= Unit digit in [(42)896 x 4] = Unit digit in (6 x 4) = 4 Unit digit in (625)317  = Unit digit in (5)317  = 5 Unit digit in (341)491  = Unit digit in (1)491  = 1 Required digit = Unit digit in (4 x 5 x 1) = 0.

28 Percentage A batsman scored 110 runs which included 3 boundaries and 8 sixes. What percent of his total score did he make by running between the wickets? A.45% B.45(5/11)% C.54(6/11)% D.55%

29 Percentage Two students appeared at an examination. One of them secured 9 marks more than the other and his marks was 56% of the sum of their marks. The marks obtained by them are: A.39, 30 B.41, 32 C.42, 33 D.43, 34

30 Percentage Let their marks be (x + 9) and x.
Then, x + 9 =56/100[(x + 9 + x)]  25(x + 9) = 14(2x + 9) 3x = 99  x = 33 So, their marks are 42 and 33.

31 Percentage A fruit seller had some apples. He sells 40% apples and still has 420 apples. Originally, he had: A.588 apples B.600 apples C.672 apples D.700 apples

32 Percentage Suppose originally he had x apples.
Then, ( )% of x = 420. [60/100] x = 420  x =[420 x 100]/60 X = 700.

33 Percentage If A = x% of y and B = y% of x, then which of the following is true? A.A is smaller than B. B.A is greater than B C.Relationship between A and B cannot be determined. D.If x is smaller than y, then A is greater than B. E.None of these

34 Percentage If 20% of a = b, then b% of 20 is the same as: A.4% of a
B.5% of a C.20% of a D.None of these

35 Percentage 20% of a = b 20a/100 = b Now b% of 20 = b20/100
=20a/100 x 20/100 =4a/100  = 4% of a.

36 Percentage A student multiplied a number by 3/5 instead of 5/3
What is the percentage error in the calculation? A.34% B.44% C.54% D.64%

37 Percentage Let the number be x. Then, error =5x/3 -3x/5 =16x/15
= 64%.

38 Profit & loss Cost Price:
The price, at which an article is purchased, is called its cost price, abbreviated as C.P. Selling Price: The price, at which an article is sold, is called its selling prices, abbreviated as S.P. Profit or Gain: If S.P. is greater than C.P., the seller is said to have a profit or gain. Loss: If S.P. is less than C.P., the seller is said to have incurred a loss.

39 Profit & Loss IMPORTANT FORMULAE 1. Gain = (S.P.) - (C.P.)
2. Loss = (C.P.) - (S.P.) 3. Loss or gain is always reckoned on C.P. Gain Percentage: (Gain %)     Gain % =(Gain x 100)/C.P. Loss Percentage: (Loss %)     Loss % =(Loss x 100)/C.P.

40 Profit & loss 4. Selling Price: (S.P.) SP =[(100 + Gain %)x C.P]/100
    SP =[(100 - Loss %)x C.P.]/100 6. Cost Price: (C.P.)     C.P. =[100x S.P.]/(100 + Gain %) 7. Cost Price: (C.P.)     C.P. =[100x S.P.]/(100 - Loss %) 8. If an article is sold at a gain of say 35%, then S.P. = 135% of C.P. 9. If an article is sold at a loss of say, 35% then S.P. = 65% of C.P.

41 Profit & loss Alfred buys an old scooter for Rs and spends Rs. 800 on its repairs. If he sells the scooter for Rs. 5800, his gain percent is: A.4(4/7)% B.5(5/11)% C.10% D.12%

42 Profit & loss Cost Price (C.P.) = Rs. (4700 + 800) = Rs. 5500.
Selling Price (S.P.) = Rs Gain = (S.P.) - (C.P.) = Rs.( ) = Rs. 300. Gain % =(300/5500)x 100%= 5(5/11)%

43 Profit & loss The cost price of 20 articles is the same as the selling price of x articles. If the profit is 25%, then the value of x is: A.15 B.16 C.18 D.25

44 Profit & loss Let C.P. of each article be Re. 1
C.P. of x articles = Rs. x. S.P. of x articles = Rs. 20. Profit = Rs. (20 - x). Profit (%) [(20 - x)/x] 100 = 25   x = 25x 125x = 2000  x = 16.

45 Profit & loss A vendor bought toffees at 6 for a rupee. How many for a rupee must he sell to gain 20%? A.3 B.4 C.5 D.6

46 Profit & loss C.P. of 6 toffees = Re. 1
S.P. of 6 toffees = 120% of Re. 1 = Rs.6/5 For Rs.6/5, toffees sold = 6 For Re. 1, toffees sold =6 x5/6= 5.

47 Profit & loss A shopkeeper expects a gain of 22.5% on his cost price. If in a week, his sale was of Rs. 392, what was his profit? A.Rs B.Rs. 70 C.Rs. 72 D.Rs

48 Profit & loss C.P. = Rs.[100/122.5]x 392 = Rs.[1000/1225]x 392
 Profit = Rs. ( ) = Rs. 72.
