What in the world is matter?

Matter is… A. Anything that moves B. Anything that takes up space.
C. Something that cries.

The particle model TIME FOR A SONG All substances are made up of particles (atoms, ions or molecules). These particles are attracted to each other, some strongly and others weakly. These particles move around (i.e. have kinetic energy). The kinetic energy of particles increases with temperature.
14
Temperature and energy
The piston can be dragged however the gas particles WILL NOT move the piston if the temperature is increased.
15
What is Evaporation? Evaporation Is a type of VAPORIZATION. It occurs when the particles in a liquid escape to form a vapour. Evaporation can occur at any temperature but it occurs most rapidly at a liquid’s boiling point. The particles that escape take some energy from the remaining particles and so the temperature of the liquid falls.
16
Vaporization. 2 types: Boiling Evaporation
Transition form liquid to gas state Occurs at the surface of the liquid; higher energy particles escape from the liquid surface Occurs at any temperature below the boiling point Transition from liquid to gas state Occurs below the surface. Bubbles of vapor rise the surface At or above the boiling point
