General highlights
Consumption increased for all fuels except nuclear power
Production increased for all fuels except Coal
Global Primary energy consumption increased by 0.9%, a marked deceleration over 2013(+2.0%) and well below the 10-year average of 2.1%
Regional Energy Consumption
China (+2.6%, slowest since 1998) & India (+7.1%) recorded the largest national increments to global energy consumption.
US growth was (+1.2%)
Declines in energy consumption in the EU(-3.9%) & Japan(-3.0%).
The fall in EU energy consumption was the second largest percentage decline on record(exceeded only in the aftermath of financial crisis in 2009)

USA overtook Russia as the world’s largest producer of Oil & Gas
Global growth in natural gas was also weak, held back by the mild European winter triggering a sharp fall in European gas consumption (-11.6%)
EU production fell sharply(-9.8%) it its lowest level since 1971.
The largest volumetric declines were seen in Russia(-4.3%) and the Netherlands(-18.7%)
The US(+2.9%), China(+8.6%) and Iran(+6.8%) recorded the largest growth increments.
(-3.4%)decline in global gas trade, the largest decline on record in pipeline shipments by 6.2%, global LNG trade increased by 2.4%
Higher imports of LNG by China(+10.8%) & the UK(+20.1%) while lower imports from South Korea(-6.0%) & Spain(-15.7%).

16. USA replaced Saudi Arabia as the world’s largest oil producer
Global Oil Highlight
USA recorded the largest increase(+1.6m b/d) in oil production in the world, becoming the first county ever to increase average annual production by at least 1million barrels per day for three consecutive years.

Oil remained the world’s leading fuel, with 32.6% of global energy consumption, but lost market share for the 15TH consecutive year.
USA has reduced 7.3m b/d net oil imports since 2005
Chinese consumption growth was below average but still recorded the largest increment to global oil consumption(+390,000b/d); Japan recorded the largest decline(-220,000 b/d),with Japanese oil consumption falling to its lowest level since 1971.
Along with the US, production in Canada(+310,000 b/d) and Brazil (+230,000) also reached record levels in 2014
OPEC output was flat, and the group’s share of global production fell to 41%, its lowest since 2003

Global Highlight
Coal’s consumption outside the OECD grew by 1.1%, the weakest growth since 19198, driven by a flattening of Chinese consumption (+0.1%)
Coal production declines in China(-2.6%, the world’s largest volumetric decline) & the Ukraine (-29.0%) hare is 30 % in energy mix , a decrease 0.17% from last year.
Ukraine(-20.2%) & the UK (-20.3%) posted significant declines
OECD consumption fell by 1.5%, led by a 6.5% decline in the EU
Coal production increases in India (+6.4%) and Australia (+4.7%)

Increases in South Korea, China and France outpaced declines in Japan, Belgium and the UK. Japan has taken last operating reactor offline.
Global hydroelectric output grew by a below average 2.0%. Share in primary energy consumption is 6.8%
Chinese output grew (+15.7%) & Brazil output reduced by(-5.5%) & turkey Output reduced by (-32%)
Solar power generation grew by 38.2% (+11.6 mtoe)
Wind energy grew by 10.2% (+14.8 mtoe) well below less than half of its 10-year average.
