Lesson 8 : Height and Relief Jittrapon Soontorn Social Studies Program
2
Height and Relief Map is a flat tool that describe the earth’s surface showing only 2 dimension. Topographic map can showing the height of the earth’s surface Using line, called Contour line.
3
Height and Relief Contour line uses for showing the height of surface.
Each dot within the same contour line always have the same height Ex. In the 2,000 m. contour line, each dot on this line will height 2,000 m. too.
4
Height and Relief In L7018 map series have 4 types of contour line
Index contour has 100 meters interval. Intermediate contour has 20 meters interval. Supple contour has 10 meters interval. Approximate contour.
5
Height and Relief Example contour line Index contour
Intermediate contour Supple contour
6
Height and Relief Considering in map contour
we can making the height figure of earth surface Called “map profile”
7
Height and Relief In Thailand, the height of land was measured from Koh Lak, Prachuap Khirikhan Province. Using mean sea level. Since King Rama V reign.
8
Height and Relief From contour line, we can illustrate the height of earth surface by making map profile.
9
Height and Relief From map profile technic, the map user can estimate the earth surface type by reading the pattern of contour line layout. concave slope uniform slope convex slope
10
Height and Relief Other way to illustrate the height from map is making relief model. From contour line we can overlay the height of each place Like the floor in the building. Relief model can make user to perceive about the landscapes. Using for planning the project which relate to spatial factor.
