The Water Cycle Precipitation – liquid water or ice that falls back to Earth’s surface. Rain is precipitation. Evaporation – the change in phase of liquid water to water vapor. Example would be water from oceans or rivers is evaporated into the atmosphere as water vapor. Condensation – water vapor in the air gets cold and changes back into liquid and forms clouds. Transpiration – the process by which plants lose water out of their leaves. Gives evaporation help in getting the water vapor back up into the air. Infiltration – the movement of surface water into rock or soil through cracks and pore spaces. Sun – the sun heats up water on land, oceans, and lakes and causes evaporation Run-off – when precipitation gathers in streams and rivers and flows back down to the oceans, seas, and lakes

3
What is energy? Energy is the ability to do work.
Energy makes change; it does things for us.
4
How Can energy be transferred?
Conduction Convection Radiation
5
Types of Energy Chemical Energy - energy stored in the bonds of atoms and molecules. Mechanical Energy – energy stored in objects by the application of a force.
6
Types of energy Nuclear Energy – energy stored in the nucleus of an atom – the energy that holds the nucleus together. Gravitational Energy – the energy of position or place. A rock resting at the top of a hill contains gravitational potential energy.
7
Types of energy Electrical Energy – the movement of electrical charges. Radiant Energy – electromagnetic energy that travels in transverse waves.
8
Types of energy Thermal energy – heat energy, is the internal energy in substances. Geothermal energy is an example of energy. Motion energy – the movement of objects and substances from one place to another. Wind Sound energy – the movement of energy through substances in longitudinal waves. Sound is produced when a force causes an object or substance to vibrate.
9
Energy transformations
An energy transformation is a change from one form of energy to another form of energy. This is sometimes called an energy conversion.
11
How is energy involved in your everyday life?
