2. Group Format - Pro (2 Students to provide their argument why they support the issue) - Con (2 Students to provide their argument why they are against the issue) * Every student must demonstrate they participated in all the research work, essay, and oral presentation.

3. Requirements 1. PowerPoint - (10-12 slides per group) Each group will be given an opportunity to present a clear argument for their side through a PowerPoint presentation. 2. Essay – Each group will write a 600 words essay. Follow the format on the website. 3. Each group will provide examples (e.g., cite the constitutional law, precedence “past cases”, federal or State laws, recent events) to support their arguments on the essay and PowerPoint. - Use bullet points to outline the key points of the argument. Index cards must be used with the presentations.

4. Data (Information) - Debater(s) will need to research information (i.e., constitutional law, precedence “past cases”, recent events) to support their arguments. Visual Effects - Debater(s) must use visual effects in the PowerPoint presentation to enhance their presentation. Debater(s) can be creative by including a short video clip (1-2 minutes) that students create through YouTube to illustrate and enhance their argument. The short video clip must be relevant to the debate.

The following items will be used for the project: 1. Power Point (10-12 slides) – Outline key points with bullet points. 2. Index cards (4-6 cards) – Each person must use the card during the Power Point presentation. No cards will result in lower grade. The index cards will be collected after each debate for a grade.

6. Maintaining Composure - Each student is expected to maintain their composure during the presentation. The student must be respectful during their opponent’s presentation. Anybody that tries to instigate/incite an argument that could lead to unrest will be removed from class and the student(s) will get NO CREDIT for the assignment. * Note: Loosing your composure shows lack of confidence and exposes weakness. You also lose credibility with the Judges and Instructor.

7. Judges Student Judges = 1 Vote Each Four (4) students will be selected by the instructor to serve as a judge for the project. Each student will get 50 Bonus points in the end of the project. Requirements for Judges - Good grades (B or above) - Outstanding Citizenship - Listen and judge the debate honestly and fairly. The Judges will vote in a secret ballot the end of each debate. The instructor will also cast a vote to decide who won the debate. Instructor = 2 Votes

8. Time Frame Presentation - Pro (3 to 4 minutes) - Con (3 to 4 minutes) Rebuttals - Pro (2 to 3 minutes) - Con (2 to 3 minutes) Final Thoughts (If any…) - Pro (1 minute) - Con (1 minute)
* Time will be monitored so do not go over the time limit. It will result in a lower rating.

9. Audience (Participation Points) - Pay attention to the presentation quietly (no cell phones, sleeping, talking). It will result in losing points in the project. - Anybody that tries to instigate/incite an argument that could lead to unrest during the presentation will be removed from class and will get NO CREDIT for the assignment. - The instructor will ask the audience questions randomly to check if they are paying attention. Students that are not paying attention will lose points from their own project.

10. What will be graded/collected. 1
What will be graded/collected ? 1. PowerPoint (10-12 slides) a copy on due the date. 2. Essay (600 words) it on the due date: 3. Graphic Organizer (2) One needs to be downloaded from the website. The other will be a concept web created by each group. Both will be collected in the end of the debate. 4. Presentation - Composure (focused & dressed professional), Look at the judges, loud, and clear. 5. Visual (creative with pictures/videos) 6. Index Cards (4-5 cards) Collected in the end of each debate. 7. Lab Time – Each student must work during lab time. If the instructor feels a student(s) is disrupting and wasting class time, the student(s) will get no credit for the lab time. NOTE: Debate Winners (100 Bonus Points!)
