6. How do students qualify for Reading Support?
Students are first identified based on multiple measures assessed on the universal screener called aimswebPlus .
First Grade: Oral Reading Fluency, Nonsense Word Fluency, Phoneme Segmentation
Second Grade: Oral Reading Fluency

7. How do students qualify for Reading Support? (cont.)
Students are then given additional assessments to determine area of need.
First Grade: Phonological Awareness Screener
Second Grade: Phonics Screener

8. Why Not Wait?
Students who struggle with reading prior to third grade are less likely to become strong independent readers without explicit interventions.
Early intervention is most effective.
Reading is the basis for much of the learning in the upper grades.

9. When and where do Title I services take place?
Small group support (no more than 6 students) offered 4 times per week for 30 minutes in first grade and 45 minutes in second grade.
Classes scheduled in collaboration with the homeroom teacher
Interventionists’ rooms are equipped with multiple types of material for different styles of learning…kinestic, visual, and auditory.

10. How will the Title I teachers report progress throughout the year?
Reports shared with parents indicating progress

Multiple opportunities throughout the year
Ongoing conversations are key to the success of your child’s reading development.

11. Peeking Into a Title I Classroom
After individual assessments were administered, students were placed in groups based on their specific area of weakness.
Intervention will occur and then skills will be reassessed to measure growth.

95% Group Intervention
Grade 1…we begin by solidifying phonological awareness skills. Additional assessments will be administered the last week of October and information will be shared at fall conferences.
All groups MAY be adjusted in January after the aimswebPlus Winter Benchmark Assessments.

Grade 2…we begin by solidifying short vowels in addition to blends and diagraphs. Five interventionists are working in second grade this year. Interventionists are utilizing the Sonday System or 95% Group Intervention.
Again…all groups MAY be adjusted in January after the aimswebPlus Winter Benchmark Assessments.

15. Home Connections~ways to grow as a reader
Lending Library and decodable text will be sent home to reinforce phonics skills.
Literacy Apps will be provided to families.
Be sure that your child sees YOU read!
Reading Calendars
Set aside at least 15 minutes to read with your child consistently at least five days a week.
Record minutes on your reading calendars and turn calendar in at the end of each month.
