Room 23 May 1-5, 2017 Language Arts We continued in our theme, “Rights and Responsibilities.” We discussed what rights and responsibilities were and talked about some of our own rights and responsibilities. We re-read A Play for All , found important details, and figured out what the main idea of this story was. We will continue practicing main idea next week. Our vocabulary words this week are: individual, agreement, rights Word Study This week learned and practiced with words with y. We recognized that the y can say two sounds: long i or long e. We practiced adding and taking away letters to form new words. We reviewed our new word wall words. always, almost, my, by Please practice these at home! Please make sure you are reviewing our phonics skills at home. Spelling is becoming much harder for some students. 2 End of the Year Celebration! Alternates for the week:
Field Trip to the Zoo! On Wednesday, we had our field trip to the Philadelphia Zoo and had so much fun! We got to see all sorts of amazing, interesting animals! Some of the favorites were the snakes, giraffes, flamingos, meerkats, monkeys, tigers, and many more! We were also able to learn some really interesting facts about the different animals. See what your child can teach you! End of the Year Celebration! Parents, save the date! On Friday, June 9th, from 1:45-3pm, we will be having our End of the Year Celebration. More information to come at a later date! Math This week we continued in chapter 15 and started learning how to tell time! We learned how to tell time to the hour and half hour. Please practice reading a clock with your child at home! We have been using the terminology, “half past __” and “__ o’clock” while also learning to read time on an analog clock.
