1. Jinchang Ren’s Brief Biography
Jinchang Ren obtained his BEng in Computer Software, MEng in Image Processing and DEng in Computer Vision from the Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an,, China in 1992, 1997 and 2000 respectively. He was also awarded a PhD in Digital Imaging and Media Communication from the University of Bradford, Bradford, UK in Currently he is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) with the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Strathclyde, also the Deputy Director of Strathclyde Hyperspectral Imaging Centre. His research interests include: image processing and analysis, intelligent multimedia information processing; visual computing; computer vision; content-based image/video management, retrieval and understanding; machine learning and pattern recognition; human-computer interaction; visual surveillance; archive restoration; motion estimation and hyperspectral imaging.

Focusing on both theoretical research and application driven development, Dr. Ren has initiated new thematic areas in hyperspectral imaging, remote sensing and big data analytics.
Dr. Ren has published over 160 peer-reviewed research papers in prestigious international journals and conferences, with about 100 in journals. Currently his group has 8 PhD/EngD students and 2 RAs. His students have won three best paper/post awards, and also the best PhD thesis from Vision and Image Section of IET in Dec (only one in UK).
He is in the editorial board of five international journals, including J. of the Franklin Institute (Elsevier), IET Image Processing, Multidimensional Signal Processing and Systems (Springer), International J. of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data Analytics. He also serves as chair/co-chair/organiser for a number of international conferences and workshops, including those affiliated with IEEE ICIP 2017, IEEE Smart Data 2017, EUSIPCO 2015/2017, IEEE Multimedia Big Data (2015), PCM (2016), BICS’2018, and Hyperspectral Imaging Conference (2012/2014/2016).
He is a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
