3 Collaborative Research Projects
2nd NUCLEAR REGULATORY INFORMATION CONFERENCE Collaborative Research Projects • Project: Assessment of natural radioactivity in drinking water in the surroundings of former uranium mines Aim: To quantify the concentrations of uranium progenies in drinking water sources in relation to safety standards. Expected Outcome: An analytical methods approved for drinking water compliance monitoring of radionuclides need to be implemented through the department of water and environmental affairs, albeit, with the help of the NNR •Project: Isotopic and Elemental profiling of uranium oxide for nuclear forensic applications Aim: Fingerprinting the potential of uranium oxide signatures as part of nuclear security goals. Expected Outcome: Determination of the isotopic ratios, trace elements and age in the uranium samples, thereby creating a reference database using uranium samples from African countries.

4 2nd NUCLEAR REGULATORY INFORMATION CONFERENCE
Project Team Dr Risimati Mavunda (NECSA) Dr Peane Maleka (iThemba LABS) Prof Ivo Petr (Wits) Ms Nthabiseng Mohlala (MSc student) Miss Ayabulela Tsewu (MSc student)
