3 Tuition Tax Credits / Vouchers (S.279 and S.867)

Requires Common Core State Standards not be imposed in South Carolina Debate Compromise Keeps math, English / language arts in place to 2018 Standards developed by State Department of Education (SDE) must be approved by State Board of Education and Education Oversight Committee (EOC) SDE and EOC must notify General Assembly and Governor of any plans to change standards South Carolina Legislature approve standards required by sources outside of South Carolina Eleventh graders will take career and college readiness assessment Beginning in 2018, state will perform a cyclical review of ELA and math standards not developed by the state Eliminate state high school exit exam S.300 Status Reported out favorable by the Senate Committee on Education (3/19/14) S.888 Status

7 Common Core State Standards (H.3893)
Requires Common Core State Standards not be imposed in South Carolina Amendment Keeps math, English / language arts in place for school year Regulates use of Student Data Standards developed by State Department of Education (SDE) must be approved by State Board of Education and Education Oversight Committee (EOC) for the school year SDE and EOC must notify General Assembly and Governor of any plans to change standards South Carolina Legislature approve standards required by sources outside of South Carolina Procurement process overseen by State Budget and Control Board Removes South Carolina from Smarter Balance assessment consortium Cyclical review of standards by January 1, 2015 H.3893 Status Third reading in Senate and sent back to House (5/6/14)

9 Education Capital Sales and Use Tax Act (S.940 & H.4512)
Amendment to Act to allow all South Carolina School Districts ability to offer one percent sales tax referendum S.940 Status House Property Tax Subcommittee Hearing (5/7/14) Reported out favorably with amendments: County in which tax imposed comprised of more that one school district County has not imposed a local option sales tax for twenty years or more and greater than $100K in accommodations tax Referred to House Committee on Ways and Means (Week of 5/12/14) H.4512 Status Resides in House Committee on Ways and Means (1/16/14)
