8 What’s causing our deficit?
New Value Added Tax (VAT) rules 21% on most of our incomes => substantial decrease in our incomes Limited possibilities to recover VAT from our expenditures Increase in support for IJRM and the introduction of the second journal Increase in contribution for the secretariat at EIASM Increase in expenditures for the support of doctoral students 8

9 What can/should we do? Restore our (long-term) financial health asap
Increase our incomes New activities/ sponsoring Making the yearly conference a revenue generator for EMAC Raise in membership fees Decrease our expenditures Sponsoring activities Cut back on (open-ended nature of) support programmes for doctoral students 9
