We have 77 clubs and 2,409 members. Majority is from Philippines 1,500 and 600 from Thailand. District 17 is vibrant and is still growing. This district has work closely with activities integrated across countries. The friendship and bonding is close. This facilitates collaborations among clubs. The club presidents have high team spirit and things are moving ahead. The interesting part is the diversity of cultures. We learn so much from each other. Starting with the biennium our service and advocacy projects have started. Recent visits to service projects reveals more focused approach to anti-violence against women and girls as well as end child marriage theme. I am very impressed with the work done in partnership with local non-profit organization who knows the local needs and requirements. Recently a super-typhoon hits Philippines and Hong Kong. In Philippines this super-typhoon damaged homes, take away lives with landslides. Our Area 4 clubs in north Philippines immediately started projects, for example, to help 100 single moms to rebuild their homes in addition to other projects that enable the communities to restore to normal as fast as possible. My salute to the Zontians in Area 4 District 17.

The other fact is that we take responsibility seriously. For example, the Z & Golden Z committee chair can always establish a new Z and/or Golden Z clubs supported by the club she belongs to. There are currently 5 clubs in universities and 7 clubs in high schools. There are 2 clubs, one Z and one Golden Z, in forming. A short description of a project your district has worked on: We have engaged with the Zonta International headquarters plans for gender equality and the fight against gender-based violence, such as a community activism-walking event on Rose day. It started from 3 years ago, and we plan to keep doing this in this biennial. In 2017, we attended an overseas service trip to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, who had joined District 31 in 2016. We conducted three social service projects in May, The first was a dental checkup performed by local dentists trained by a professional team from Taiwan. The second activity concerned activism and engaging in the local youth community. A presentation on “Say No to violence” and gender equality was given to 150 high schools students. Thirdly, 20 sewing machines were donated to a future training center in Khord City, around 1500 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar. By providing service ourselves and seeing positive responses with our own eyes, we keep our own passions strong and hope to have contributed to Zonta’s International visibility and our mission of gender equality. This project won the third place of ZI District Service Award in this biennial. Lastly, Taiwan is the leading country to pass the "Domestic Violence Prevention Act" in Asia in We are proud to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this accomplishment by holding the event of "Ride with Us to End Domestic Violence!" Here is the link to see our video on YouTube. Enjoy!
