24. IDENTIFICATION OF DIABETIC RETINOPATHY
Diabetic Retinopathy is a Silent Sight Killer Disease . It can be graded Only with Sophisticated Equipment such as:
Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA).
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).
Electro Retino Graphy (ERG).

25. TREATMENT OF DIABETIC RETINOPATHY
Treatment to Diabetic Retinopathy may not improve vision but can often prevent further deterioration.
1. Laser Treatment .
2. Injection of a Drug (avastin) into the eye along with laser or
surgery.
3. Advanced cases may require surgery and Silicone oil or gas may
be injected into the vitreous cavity.
Preventing Diabetic Retinopathy
1. Complications can be reduced by controlling blood sugar levels, controlled diet, regular exercises.
2. Timely Treatment and regular follow-ups are a must.
3. All Diabetic Patients should get a yearly eye check-up to identify Diabetic Retinopathy.

26. CORNEAL BLINDNESS
Approximately 11 lakh blind population of our Country are waiting for Corneal Transplantation and around 25,000 new cases are being reported every year.
Eyes should be donated within 6 hours of Death.
Anyone can be a donor, irrespective of age, sex, blood group or
religion.
Persons suffering from hypertension, diabetes can also donate
eyes.
