b) “A set of handover-enabling functions within the protocol stacks of the network elements and a new entity created therein called the MIH Function (MIHF).” By b) “A set of handover-enabling functions within the protocol stacks of the network elements and a new entity created therein called the MIH Function (MIHF). The MIH Function consists of a Network Switching Function and a Handover Controlling Function. The Network Switching Function is included in the protocol stacks of different media specific technologies (such as , , 3GPP, etc.) and is responsible for switching the active session between different links. The Network Switching Function is managed by the Handover Controlling Function. The Handover Controlling Function retrieves information from the lower layers of different protocol stacks and also looks at the state of lower layers. The Handover Controller Function also retrieves information from the remote nodes and arbitrates handover decisions in conjunction with Handover Controller Functions in peer MIHF entities. Please see Figure-1. Figure 1 shows the placement of the MIHF within the protocol stack of an MN or network entity.” Delete: “Figure 1 shows the placement of the MIHF within the protocol stack of an MN or network entity. The MIHF provides services to the MIH Users through a single media independent interface (the MIH service access point) and obtains services from the lower layers through a variety of media dependent interfaces (media specific SAPs).” “d) If applicable, the new SAPs may be recommended as amendments to the standards for the respective link-layer technology.”
