According to the article, deporting criminal immigrants paradoxically increases immigration to the US through a vicious cycle of violence.
Many immigrants to the US are fleeing violence – especially in Central America. This article shows a link between the murder rates in those countries and the number of convicts deported from the US. Member of gangs in LA, for example, are deported, taking with them their criminal connections and experience. This contributes to an increase in violence in that country and thus more immigration back to the US.
