2. What is thermal energy?
Thermal energy refers to the energy contained within a system that is responsible for its temperature. Heat is the flow of thermal energy.

Positively charged atoms are attracted to negative electrode
Electrode = small piece of metal or other substance that is used to take an electric current to or from a source of power

Negatively charged atoms are attracted to positive electrode
Negatively charged atoms lose electrons
Result
Liquid solution transformed into two separate substances
Example
H2O (Water) = hydrogen gas + oxygen gas

7. How is electrolysis used?
Electroplating
Involves coating a metal object with a thin layer of another metal
Examples = cutlery, tools, jewellery
Electroplate Silver Earring
Earring is connected to negative side of battery
Silver is connected to positive side of battery
Both are in liquid solution of silver nitrate
Electric current flows, silver atoms slowly attach to surface of earring
