2 What is Professional Development?
Your professional growth as a member of the Civil Air Patrol. What you do to build your professionalism within the organization. Grade(Rank) and Awards are the measure of that growth.

3 Levels and their Awards
Level 1 – Membership Ribbon Technician Rating - Leadership Ribbon Level 2 – Benjamin O. Davis, Jr Award Level 3 – Grover C. Loening Award & Ribbon Level 4 – Paul E. Garber Award & Ribbon Level 5 – Gill Rob Wilson Award & Ribbon

4 Level 1 – Orientation Requirements
1. Set Up E-Services Account 2. Complete Orientation a. Online Lessons 1-14 w/ Quizzes b. In-Residence Discussions (w/ Mentor) for Lessons 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12 c. Plan of Action & Select Specialty Track Complete Above – Receive Membership Ribbon

Administration Logistics Operations Standardization/Eval Emergency Services Communications Aerospace Educ Safety Historian Character Develop Recruiting & Reten Information Tech

7 After you have completed Level 1
What Else Happens? After you have completed Level 1 AND You have been a Senior Member for 6 months, you are eligible for promotion to Second Lieutenant.

8 Level 2 – Technical Training Requirements
1. Complete Level 1 2. Become Technician Rated in your specialty (Leadership Ribbon) 3. Complete online Officer Basic Course 4. Complete the Squadron Leadership School SLS Complete Above – Receive Davis Award

10 What Else Happens? Once you have completed Level 2 (Davis Award) AND
Been a 2nd Lieutenant for 18 months You become eligible for Promotion to 1st Lieutenant

11 Level 3 – Management Requirements
1. Complete Level 2 2. Serve in Staff or Command Assignments for a total of at least 1 year 3. Complete the Corporate Learning Course CLC 4. Achieve the Senior Rating in your specialty 5. Attend 2 CAP conferences (Nat.,Reg.,Wing) 6. Earn Yeager Award Complete Above – Receive Loening Award

13 Once you have received the Loening Award
What Else Happens? Once you have received the Loening Award AND Have been a 1st Lieutenant for 30 months you are eligible for promotion to Captain.

14 Level 4 – Command and Staff Requirements
1. Complete Level 3 2. Achieve a Master Rating in your specialty 3. Serve in Staff or Command Assignments for a total of at least 2 years 4. Complete the Regional Staff College or its equivalent 5. Serve as a Staff Member for a CAP course 6. Make a public presentation to non-CAP group Complete Above – Receive Garber Award

16 After receiving the Garber Award
What Else Happens? After receiving the Garber Award AND Having been a Captain for 4 years (48 months), you are eligible for promotion to Major.

17 Level 5 – Executive Requirements
1. Complete Level 4 2. Serve in Staff or Command Assignments for a total of at least 3 years 3. Complete National Staff College or its equivalent 4. Serve as a Director or Staff Member for a CAP course 5. Mentor a member through Technician rating of his/her Specialty Track Complete Above – Receive Wilson Award

18 Wilson Ribbon

19 What Else Happens? After receiving the Wilson Award AND
Having been a Major for 5 years (60 months), you are eligible for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel Note: This is the highest grade achievable through CAP Professional Development.
